What about Lynch and Champ Bailey?  Do you think they've also seen better days?

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/14/2007 12:19:21 PM)

For those who love to hate The Pats:

Lynch for sure.  Anyway, their run defense is lousy.  They're allowing over 140 rushing yards per game on the ground, and it's coming at a healthy 4.5 yards per carry, so these aren't just garbage yards that teams are piling up after they've iced the game.  The pass defense isn't very good either.  They're giving up less than 200 yards per game through the air, and that doesn't look terrible on the face of it, but it's mostly because teams generally don't need to pass against them.  If you look at the efficiency numbers, you see that their opposing QB rating is 87.6, or 23rd in the NFL, and they give up a whopping 7.35 yards per pass attempt.  In other words, teams pass quite efficiently against them, but usually don't even have to do that, because they can just beat them on the ground.  The defense has forced 25 total turnovers, which is about average.

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/14/2007 11:33:34 PM)

Well, Champ doesn't get as many interceptions as he used to because people just don't throw to him anymore. Also, When him, Lynch, and the other linebackers and safeties have to help because of our suffering against the run, they suffer also.

Last year our defence didn't allowed the 2nd fewest touchdowns in the league, and now we stink. Our pass rush is NON existent, and we didn't have one sack against Houston, which doesn't help the secondary out at all.

We have the team, we don't have the execution. And it's frustrating.

As for Jay Cutler, on Thursday they showed a comparism with him to Elway in their first 12 starts, and Cutler actually had the better passer-rating. (Sorry if this was already mentioned.) As much as I wish he was Elway, we can't just expect him to go 12-4. It'll come though.

Also, not to mention an upcoming all-star, Brandon Marshall. Second in Yards after catch. He's a workhorse.

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/14/2007 11:34:53 PM)

Also, no hate for Mario Williams, BUT , our starting centre WAS out. ;)

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2007 12:18:56 AM)

Yes, I think the Broncos should improve over the next couple of years because they have several talented young skill players.  And the Chiefs and Raiders look hopeless.

I'm a Patriots fan so I don't love to hate them. They are the bad guys in the NFL for now, but at least they aren't abusing dogs, that we know of or getting arrested a half dozen times after being drafted. I bet all the other teams would love to have the same reputation so long as they are winning. I don't mind if they lose a game during the regular season. It may take this coming Sundy's prospective blizzard to give the Jets the chance to beat them. If the wind and rain or snow is bad enough this could be like the game earlier this year with the Dolphins at Whembly Stadium or the one in Pittsburg. I love it when the pundits argue that bad field conditons don't make a game competitive, actually it equalizes teams to the point that even the worst teams have a chance to beating the best teams. Gotta love it. The one negative part of it is a lot of players can get hurt in conditions like that. Blame Bledsoe for  not having a domed stadium. All that being said I would be happy if I did not have any interest at all in sports. There has to be something more interesting and vital in life than that.

Okay, but Williams is a DE, which doesn't play against the center, or do so extremely rarely [:D]

Hey kiddos, I'm outta here the weekend, big graduation doings, which means I will miss watching the Jags vs. Steelers game, plus I have a good chance of getting caught in a blizzard on the way home.  Oh joy!  Someone root on the Steelers for me!

Will do, lovely lady. Be careful and have a good weekend!

Well if you get stuck in traffic....Just sit back in your seat, close your eyes and let Steely Dan take you away....Keep your defroster on.

I was thinking about OAK recently, and I believe their future depends upon whether or not Jamarcus Russell is a FRANCHISE QB or not. If he is, then OAK can build around him the same way DAL built around Aikman and IND built around Peyton Manning.

It will just be a matter of time before OAK gets a pass blocking OL and receivers to go with him. Then, its off to the races.

The AL DAVIS factor might undercut any such plan, but in general, if you have THE QB, you have a leg up on just about every other franchise in the league.

Conversely, without a QB, things can go into the shitter: see this year's FALCONS, RAVENS, CHIEFS, DOLPHINS, BEARS AND RAMS. Think of what happened to PITT last year when Roethelsberger was compromised by his MC accident. Think of the setbacks franchises suffered by betting the farm on the wrong QB: Akili Smith in CIN, Ryan Leaf in SD, Heath Shuler in WASH, etc.

Conversely, look at the jump NE made by going from Bledsoe to Brady and the jump DAL made by going from Bledsoe to Romo.

Shit, maybe the Ravens need to acquire Bledsoe to follow this rebuilding model.

Go Steelers. Gotta cheer for Katy since she cant watch

Bucs score on kickoff return for first time in team history!

About damn time!  Better late than never.   [:)][:)][:)]

December 16, 2007 TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- It took 32 seasons and 1,865 tries, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally scored on a kickoff return. Micheal Spurlock returned a first-quarter kick 90 yards for a TD for a 14-3 lead against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. He fielded the kick from Michael Koenen at his 10, burst through a huge opening in the middle of the field and cut up the right sideline to the end zone untouched. A total of 141 players have run back kicks since Tampa Bay's inaugural season in 1976. The previous long for a return was 86 yards by Aaron Stecker against New Orleans in 2001. The Bucs have returned 10 punts for TDs in team history.

Steelers are fighting back........ 2 point conversion is good, game tied 22-22, 5:46 left.

Well, yeah, it's about time [:D]. The Bucs have always taken their own sweet time, though.... almost 2 years before they won a game, in the beginning [sm=hair.gif]

missy, I actually liked those! But the new ones are alright, too.

The Dolphins made it into overtime..... but the Ravens are about to try a game winning FG.

Nope, the kick is no good; the Dolphins are still in it!
