"shooting buckshot reply":

they all have used animated characters to spruik/pitch their product?  on TV or on packaging?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/26/2009 6:20:39 AM)

Top of page repeat of quartet:

Dolly Madison
Kellogg's
General Mills
Nabisco

Well, it's about time you showed up, Hiltie.  Your guess is close, but over time, they SHARED an animated character to "spruik/pitch their product."  We're looking for that shared character.

P.S.  What the HELL is "spruik"?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/26/2009 5:43:04 PM)

Anyone?  Hiltie? Did you disappear?  Might be too early for Hiltie 'round the other side......  But nobody in the last 12 hours?  How odd.....

Lance ...sorry I don't know the answer to the question but spruik is what the people on tv ad's or outside shop's do.... yelling loudly and saying why you MUST buy their products [:)]

Peanuts Characters by Charles Schultz. I'm not finding where it was one of the characters in particular though.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/27/2009 6:09:52 AM)

You got it.  They all sponsored Peanuts Specials.  Clue #1 include the word "beverage", so that clue was helping you think about Coca-Cola.  Took CC out, to make it more difficult.  SD, I said (in clue 1-ana-1/2) that I was hoping  y'all would NOT just google it, since it was easy to type in the quartet and read the answer.

Anyway, your turn to give us a quartet.......

Actually I'm just old enough to remember them. Since when do we get to google the clues and get the answers????

Villach Austria
Killarny, Ireland
San Pedro, Mexico
Ashikaga, Japan

Well, I started reading about each on Wikipedia and after three, it hit me.  Link above just verifies what I learned.  DAMN! That Villach, Austria is my kinda town..... Thanks for a great puzzle - learned alot, not too easy, not too hard..... Off to build a quartet since I just might be right. LOL!

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/27/2009 4:53:47 PM)

This is certainly not unique and the first three are a partial give-away, but the last must be explained as to the commonality.....

William Wrigley, Jr.
Robert McCormick
Edward O'Hare
Henry Willis (an Englishman amongst his American cousins)  Oh, wait, that's clue #1 - or maybe it's a red herring.

"Weak. Weak as water." as Mrs. Slocum would say..... But it's all I have (since I was busy with "real" work there for a while.) AND off to supper I must go.

All have Chicago Landmarks named after them. Although I will never call it The "Willis" Tower.

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/27/2009 5:26:04 PM)

I'll go ahead and post another quartet..Nap time, codeine is kicking my ass.

Mulato
Puya
Tien Tsin
Fresno

Well, you're right, but maybe "we" should let the rest of 'em in on the fact that the "naming rights" for the Sears Tower were recently sold to the English company founded by Henry Willis.

P.S.  As Chicago-born and raised, neither will I.

So, the SDFemDom4cuck quartet stands as current:

LOL The first time I heard it referred to as the "Willis" Tower I had a classic WTF reaction. It was then explained to me. Nope. Always going to be The Sears Tower for me too.

Mulato
Puya
Tien Tsin
Fresno

Puya is a plant in So. America...

Tien Tsin is a chili pepper ... and so is Fresno...

So are they all peppers of some sort - maybe hot peppers?
