Well media generally falls under the heading "those who speak do not know, and those who know do not speak" IMHO.

Given that the Jets must have beat a fair few teams to get to the Playoffs I dare say some of the rest was probably sour grapes.

Well a) we've no idea what pain meds they had him on (some of the stronger ones can leave you in a state best described as "don't give a fuck" - trust me on this one) and b) given he'd just had the crap kicked out of him I'm not sure how sage his advice might have been, unless was of the "whatever Cutler says to do, do the opposite" variety.

Well...... one thing you can never accuse Rex Ryan of is : not having a sense of humor.
This is freaking priceless. I cannot wait to see the commercials:

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan and his wife, Michelle, have agreed to appear in a series of commercials for Dr. Scholl’s to promote the foot-comfort company’s podiatric products.

Ryan signed the deal hours after the Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.

“Without feet we couldn’t be upright,” Ryan said in a press conference announcing the “For The Love of Feet” campaign. “But I do love Dr. Scholl’s. The Comfort Gel Thermal Massager is my favorite.”

“Mine, too,” Michelle Ryan said.

The commercials will air during Fox’s Super Bowl coverage Feb. 5, the company said.

The Ryans will play a fictional couple, the Bobos, who believe the world revolves around feet.

The Ryans, of course, were the targets of unwanted publicity after Deadspin posted a “foot fetish” video featuring a woman who looks like Ryan’s wife and a man offscreen who sounds like the coach.

Cutler has a torn MCL.

Symptoms of a medial collateral ligament injury tend to correlate with the extent of the injury. MCL injuries are graded on a scale of I to III.

•Grade I MCL Tear
This is an incomplete tear of the MCL. The tendon is still in continuity, and the symptoms are usually minimal. Patients usually complain of pain with pressure on the MCL, and may be able to return to their sport very quickly. Most athletes miss 1-2 weeks of play.

•Grade II MCL Tear
Grade II injuries are also considered incomplete tears of the MCL. These patients may complain of instability when attempting to cut or pivot. The pain and swelling is more significant, and usually a period of 3-4 weeks of rest is necessary.

•Grade III MCL Tear
A grade III injury is a complete tear of the MCL. Patients have significant pain and swelling, and often have difficulty bending the knee. Instability, or giving out, is a common finding with grade III MCL tears. A knee brace or a knee immobilizer is usually needed for comfort, and healing may take 6 weeks or longer.

Speaking of superstitions.. the Steelers were never going to lose that game anyways. The Jets got cocky, we got serious, and the key ingredients for the win.

It was Myron Cope's Birthday " Yoi!", People voted against the Steelers when they knew better  and lets face it, every team that says we beat them once before we can do it again, gets their behinds handed to them by us. :P

Oh and on a parting note to the Jets, they did us one favor: Made Brady cry.

Some commentators in the sports community haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over this one. I wonder if they'll have the balls to apologise as publically as they criticised.

domi - I do not fear cancer, but that is a story for another day, been there, done that.

Can't wait for our teams to meet in what should be an epic challenge.

Sorry that the Rex Ryan story is a hoax, I could see him doing that commercial.

Heres my problem with this diagnosis. Cutler is the team's "star" QB. If the trainers thought he had a serious knee injury after he left the game for good, once the 3rd stringer went in he could not return, why wasn't he put in a brace or soft cast or something to immobilize the knee and prevent further damage? The trainer put me in a brace and sent me to the hospital right away for a grade 2 MCL when I was playing high school football in 1983.

I do agree with cloudboy about most of this stuff.  Regarding the Jets game: I don't get why people are second-guessing the goal-line play-calling when they got 9 quick points right afterwards.  They lost because they couldn't stop Mendenhall in the first half; because of the strip-sack at the end of the first half; and because they couldn't stop Roethlisberger on third down at the end of the game.  The play-calling was OK.

I agree with cloudboy about Cutler too.  Personally, I think Cutler sucks monkeycock and I liked what I saw out of that third-string quarterback.  So I wouldn't want him as my franchise quarterback.  But he couldn't play on Sunday with a sprained MCL--that's insane.  And the people who tweeted about his "toughness" (yeah I'm talking about you, Derrick Brooks) without knowing what was wrong with him were just ignorant assholes who wanted to pile onto an easy target.  I hate it when these former players suddenly because super-fucking-experts on TV.  (Or like when that blowhard Bob Davie, who never won a bowl game in his life--literally--starts talking about what teams need to do in order to win bowl games.)  Everyone has a fucking opinion these days.  Never mind whether it's an INTELLIGENT or REASONABLE opinion--as long as it's an opinion, stated as loudly and forcefully as possible, that's what we want to hear.  It's true in sports and it's true in politics, and it's one reason why we're going down the tubes.

And I had a torn ACL (torn half in two) and was never given a brace, or even a cane or crutches. All depends on the Dr.

Since you were in high school, they were covering their butts.
