Ok, I have a bone to pick with whomever is in charge of scheduling football games.    10am??  On a Sunday???     This is forcing me to make some serious changes in the menu.

We have our little Hawks flag, and will be waving it proudly...but the snacks just won't be same.

Dearest, the entire football season the 1sts game in on at 10 am on the west coast.

It kinda caught me by surprise the first time I was in Cali and noticed the sports bars had breakfast buffets on the weekend.  Then I was like duh, the games start 1pm east coast, 12 pm central, and 10am on the west coast.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 10:16:42 AM)

I don't watch enough football, lol   In fact, we typically cheer on the Hawks when they are in playoffs, so that tells you the number of games we actually watch!

First five min. of this game, Bears have a touchdown.  I think I will go reorganize the fridge.

The Jets are about a minute away from knocking off the Pats..

Time for another on-sider

It worked as well as the first one :)

I haven't watched an American football game in years, and that was a superb one to come back to.

Full credit to the Jets - superb performance, especially on defence.

The obnoxious loudmouth out coaches the douchebag cheater. Not that Rex is the most dapper dresser in the world but is Belichick's fashion coordinator some homeless guy?

AFC title game in Pittsburgh. Woot!. Bring on the Terrible Towels and the Newcastle Brown Ale.

Its LaM v. Katy next week.

Ryan had his team ready to go. Beating Peyton Manning and Tom Brady back-to-back must be an all-time peak experience for him. If he can knock the Steelers off next, he will have slain nearly every demon he's ever faced.

Brady looked as confused as Joe Flacco out there.

Can't believe BAL could have had a home game.....

From what I saw this weekend, save for CHI, having the bye seems to disrupt the rhythm of the higher seeded team playing at home. PITT looked sluggish starting out and NE squandered opportunites and ATL regressed from its crisp, tight style of play.

Domiguy is MIA; seems like he should be crowing rather loudly right now.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 5:02:43 PM)

mbmbn - sorry about the loss.  Not what I expected.

LAM - bring on Rexy, great feet, Braylon Edwards backflips & Santonio, we are waiting for ya in the 'burgh!  Hope it snows....

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 5:32:55 PM)

Thanx Katy ! Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4-8 and in leiu of flowers, please make donations to the mbmbn mental health foundation. Cmail me for details.[;)]

I am pretty much speechless. I never thought this game was in the bag, expected a close game, but we were manhandled by the Jets. And that was unexpected to me. I have no idea who those guys were in Patriots uniforms today. I saw no fire or sense of urgency by the Pats at any given point in the game. It was weird.

I've already pulled out my black and gold knee socks and will be cheerleading for the Steelers next week.

Packers vs Bears for NFC title. Doesn't get any better than that. GO PACK

Agreed, although I think you have to give some credit to the Jets defence, who played well. There were several times Brady looked up, had time and space, and still no-one was open.

I was also amazed by how many times the Patriots dropped "difficult but you'd still expect the Patriots to catch them" passes.

And, since Pittsburgh is my favourite team, I'm going to watch the next game too :)

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 5:40:41 PM)

Well this is one week when I don't mind being wrong about almost everything.  Jets-Packers in the Super Bowl baby!

quote:

ORIGINAL: Lordandmaster

Ravens at Steelers: The matchup everyone wanted to see.  I kinda think the Ravens are the better team, and the Steelers have not been untouchable at home.  Also, the Ravens have the kind of team that can win in any environment.  So Ravens in a close one.

Packers at Falcons: The winner of this one goes to the Super Bowl.  As much as I like the Packers, the Falcons are probably the most solid team in the NFC, and the extra week of rest usually helps.  So Falcons in another close one.

Seahawks at Bears: I don't think Marshawn Lynch is going to be breaking seven tackles against the Bears' defense.  Bears.

Jets at Patriots: Fuck.  I wanted the path to be Chiefs-Steelers-Patriots, not Colts-Patriots.  I may have said this before: the Jets are more talented up and down the roster, but the Patriots have a certain motherfucker named Tom Brady, and his advantage over Mark Sanchez outweighs the Jets' advantage at almost every other position.  Patriots.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 5:46:37 PM)

For the most part the playoffs have been great.  Glad da Bears knocked off Seattle.  ty  NFC championship to be decided between hardcore rivals.

servantforuse -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 5:57:45 PM)

Packers / Bears is the oldest rivalry in the NFL, dating back to 1919. Bears have 92 wins, Packers 83 and 6 were tied..

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 6:11:59 PM)

The doom and gloom predicted by pundits didn't land in Gillette Stadium until the playoffs. Brady never had anyone to stretch the field and the JETS crowded all the short passing lanes. Dare I say it, NE seemed at a loss without its deep threat, Randy Moss.

I give Bill Cowher credit as an analyst, because he all but predicted that NE would turn the ball over, and that the JETS would play stout D and shorten the game, etc. He also predicted that PITT would come back in the second half with short passes and screens to get back in the game, and that's exactly what happened. He's definitely the best guy on all the networks to listen to during the half time of games.

Footnotes:

(1) Can anyone doubt the value of Kurt Warner to the Cardinals. His absence was the equivalent of Peyton Manning missing from the Colts.

(2) Prediction: Albert Haynesworth to the JETS in 2011.

(3) Donovan McNabb to the Cardinals.

You need to switch your avatar to footsie shot for the next week.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/16/2011 6:31:16 PM)

Well the Jets pissed me off.....screwed up my prediction for a repeat of Superbowl XXXI between the Packers & Patriots. Oh well....

The game most people will want to see next week is (as stated above) the oldest rivalry in the league between the Packers and da Bears no matter which way it goes, it's guaranteed to be one of the best games ever. This will also be only the second time these two have battled for the NFC title.

GO PACK GO!!!
