sorry Wayward, I agree with you, that this discussion has taken place...says so much
Apart from the fact people think its ok that he was treated in such a way, its past time that people stop saying "free market" works for anyone but the corporations.

Oh ya....and starving in Venezuela with no toilet paper is such a better life. Or...wait...being in a reeducation camp in North Korea, or in jail in China. Of course starving in Cuba or the old Soviet Union was so much better as well. What an idiot.

Here, as capitalists, we have a choice - ignore the propaganda and take advantage of discounts, and fly United... Or don't.

Under Crazy Lucy's ideal system, as you say - you cannot even find toilet paper. And the information you have access to, is only that propaganda Dear Leader allows you to have

And...since the airlines have Federal Regulations, something Lucy would like more of, they could not legally bargain with passengers.

So why didn't the airline simply increase its offer until it found a passenger willing to make the transaction? The answer is that federal regulations set an artificial cap on what an airline has to pay if it kicks you off their plane. So long as it can get you to your destination within two hours of your scheduled arrival, an airline doesn't have to pay you any more than twice the ticket price, or $675, whichever is less. And if it cannot get you there within that time frame, it must pay you four times the ticket price, capped at $1,350.

UA is now reportedly refunding the fares of all the passengers in the flight that this happened on.

Let me guess -- if they sign agreeing not to discuss the incident.

Again, better than being a journalist in Venezuela where you go to jail for speaking your mind.

That makes perfect sense in a leftist cartoon world. Government regulations got us here so what is obviously needed, is more bureaucratic interference with the free markets

Keep listening to them and we will need ObamaAir to fix things real good, in about twenty more years

Thank you for explaining that your ignorance is due to your residential location and your inability, despite the Internet, thank god for Al Gore's invention, to see beyond your immediate area. I've always just assumed your ignorance was due to your profoundly low intelligence.

The plane wasnt overbooked. In this case, the problem arose because United decided at the last minute to fly four members of staff to a connection point and needed to bump bitch slap four passengers to make way for them.

At this point, the airline could have identified another passenger for removal or raised its offer anywhere up to a maximum of $1,350.

Erin Benson, a spokeswoman for United, could not confirm whether other passengers were sought. She did confirm that no offer was made above $800 to the slant eyed asian, but could not comment on why.

Actually...it was (see your comments above regards the 4 UAL staff...ergo....overbooked).

(It's on the ticket).

It says you can be DENIED BOARDING.
he had already boarded.
(It's on your ticket)

Read the fine print.

(I'm not here to educate you).

I have.
Thank goodness you aren't here to educate me because you'd be doing a shit job.
It says you can be DENIED BOARDING (I typed that slowly just for you).
The flight was not overbooked.
Due to poor planning 4 employees needing a freebie needed to be put on at the last minute. This is not over booking, this is a brain fart on someone's part.
They decided to make their bad planning into someone else's emergency.
I have already explained that forcible confiscation of someone's purchased property because another person feels entitled to have it FREE is a LIBERAL practice.

Liberal.

The flight was overbooked.

It was overbooked because there was a United flight (delayed) in Chicago that needed additional flight crew.

Those flight crew....not arriving in Chicago...timely...would have delayed a flight with a similar number of passengers as the flight where this fellow was pulled off.

United owns that airplane.

That airplane could produce (in Chicago...by virtue of providing said 4 employees)...a flight that could then therefore cause said (concurring) flight to occur.

If you have any doubt about any of the above....see the red highlighted section above.

When you own the airplane (and don't sell tickets with fine print that allows you to cause other flights....in airplanes that you own....to arrive on time by virtue of putting your staff in same)....feel free to be butt hurt.

Until then...United was in the right.

It sucked. It was awful for the fellow that got pulled off the plane (that was owned by United).

The man who bought a ticket....agreed to the terms.

(Call the waaaaaaaambulance).

Thus endeth the lesson ###END###

As cited above, they violated their own rules.
Seriously, I don't know if your liberalism, your ignorance or your corporate bootlicking is taking center stage.
If they did things right, how come ALL 3 of the security agents are now suspended AND they are refunding fares for the whole planeload of people?
You're sounding like bosco. Lying about things to cover up your abject ignorance.

Losing 1.2 billion in stock valuation in 48 hours would be my first guess....my second would be....selling future tickets (revenue).

Did you have any other questions?

United is NOT in the right for causing injury to this man. If he refuse to leave the plane. They could have send their employees on a vehicle to where they need to go to. As it's just 4 hours. And their flight is the next day apparently. They would have gotten to their flight in time in a driven vehicle.

They simply put their own staff comfort ABOVE a FULL PRICED PAYING CUSTOMER.

That is where they are wrong! Every company needs to have PR too! And they failed extremely badly here.

And it's a frail 69 yr old dude for gawd's sake! What bullies!!

They should have done EVERYTHING very differently.

Were they legally in the right?

Without debate.

Obviously if this scribble is an indication you're not handling anything. Exactly where, may I ask, did I indicate the heat in the kitchen was bothering me? Is it that the mental patient gave you a list of responses and this one seemed, to you, to be the most appropriate?
