It's very interesting the differences in view.

I was arguing with my BFF on this.

He said, they are on a Free Employee benefit ticket. The rules are, no leggings allowed. They broke the rule! They were just causing trouble.

And my point is! That rule is absolutely ridiculous and discriminating against women attire! I'm glad it was brought up to public. It's just wrong!

1) The girls were 10 and 11 yrs old for gawd's sake. Quite normal that leggings is comfortable flying gear and respectable too.

2) Their dad was wearing short Shorts! He was definitely not formally dressed too!

Why the gender double standard? They only attacked his daughters!

3) And why should employees traveling on leisure time be treated any differently from paying passengers? People think it's "Free", but it's part of their job package. They worked for it, they earned it! It's not "Free".

It's all to do with corporate image.
Just like you used to have to be well-behaved after leaving the school gates with your uniform on; you are an ambasador for the school.

These tickets are free.
But to qualify for them, there's a strict dress code.

And whilst I agree it is a ludicrous rule against the female gender, rules is rules.
It really is as simple as that.
Don't want to obey the rules??
Pay a small price for an upgrade.

The explanation from u.a. is that their employees represent u.a. and as such there is a dress code for the company image.

It is difficult to speak about this because leggings encompass a wide variety of clothing, ranging from the nylon sports wear which are passable for pants to Cotton base layer which are little more then long underwear. That being said - having worked for companies that wish to keep a positive public image, it is not unusual of them to enforce a dress code on those that are provided free service. Theme Parks, Public Transit, and even some establishments which provide free lodging or usage of their property to those they employ still wish you to maintain a degree of professional courtesy... After all - you are not entitled to being given free services just because you work there... it is just a limited benefit which they provide as a kindness.

I've actually been on Free United Airline flights, in Business Class infact, because of a relative working there. So I've been on this type of flights. With United. But my experience was totally the opposite, I was treated like a normal paying passenger.

And I wear Yoga Pants if I fly all the time. They are usually spandex. I didn't get stopped. I think whoever targetted those little girls was just being absolutely disgusting and mean! And Cruel!

But I guess my experience was different too, as in from the crew who was admitting, checking me in, to the crew who was checking tickets before you can enter the plane, to all the stewardesses, they knew who my relative was, and knew I was her relative and acknowledged that and they were instructed to be nice to me, so they were all nice to me.

Most women like to wear Form Fitting Dresses and Pants! And that is NOT indecent!

This is some serious Archaic policy created possibly by a Fundie Christian who lives in the stone ages!

Women can't wear comfy Yoga Pants, but men can wear Shorts! WTF!

Wouldn't a women look more sloppily dress when she boards the flight in Shorts?

She can look so much more professional in a form fitting dress or pants!

You have yet to show where the father was wearing shorts that did not comply.

The type of ticket is printed on the ticket so yes anyone with the authority to board a passenger would know the status of the ticket holder.
A simple way to solve the problem is to do away with the dress code for non fare paying passengers with the caviat that if they tell anyone of their status they or their sponsor's employment will be terminated immediately.
I know many who fly for free and all of them love to brag about it to whom ever will listen.

Here is a thought - Keep making a stink of this and United can just Revoke the Pass Ride Program altogether.

Employees are not entitled to be provided Free or Reduced cost tickets by the Airline by any sense or measure, it is NOT a Right, it is NOT earned. They provide this service as a kindness and courtesy to their employees and retirees... All they ask in return is that you maintain yourself to a professional level while taking advantage of this kindness.

So if you make this a point of Political Contention - United will just kill the program and this problem will Never Happen again. Of course, those girls will probably never fly again because getting full price airline tickets are rather pricey... probably too pricey for a UA employee...

But hey - you fought that social injustice of a company maintaining a dress code you disagreed with... screw who you hurt in the process, am i right?

This is absolutely crazy because, why would United solution be to kill this program, rather than to stop discriminating against Women wearing Form Fitting clothings as something as unacceptable? They aren't freaking Taliban.

As for free shit a company gives you. Every company got their own employee benefits is at their discretion. But when they choose to give it. Give it sincerely! And don't treat staff like cattle class or something, lower than regular paying passengers!

It's like if I work in a restaurant, and then I get maybe a free dinner in the restaurant i work in for like my birthday as a perk as an employee. Should they treat me lower than dirt of a regular customer, just because the meal was free?

What bullshit is this philosophy?

Why should they be grateful about the free tickets? It's part of their employee package!

I don't think I need to shut the fuck up. And I am glad thousands of people are flooding United Twitter with angry Tweets about this policy as it DISCRIMINATES AGAINST WOMEN! And they shamed and sexualised 10 yr old girls!

I hope the boycott of their Airlines and all the bad press will make them reconsider this Taliban Policy! OF insinuating that form fitting clothings for women is not respectable dressing!

Well that is departing from Singapore Airport.

I always hear US Airports are horrible and terrible. Generally the service at our Airports is seriously good. We aren't the world's number 1 or number 2 airport if we had attitude like the ones at the Denver airport, targeting 10 yr old girls.

I doubt those kids will get shit from United here even on Free Employee Pass.

And United should seriously consider changing their black and white policy for "Form Fitting pants or Dresses".

That is sooo ridiculous beyond anything. They just want employee pass holders to look neat and tidy. There is nothing untidy or unprofessional about form fitting pants or dresses. I wear them for business all the time!
