Someone mentioned that the others have risen and fell in the polls, but that Romney has remained constant... not improving.. but not dropping either. I think people do realize he may be their only hope. I see his numbers as people waiting to see if someone else comes along... but it doesnt seem like he/she will.

Newt will get the nod for Prez from the Republican party because he's the only one up there aside from Paul (which, sadly, won't get elected) who has been "seasoned" by Washington. The guy is also steeped in history....I've never seen a guy so well read in that arena before. If you want a Prez who can make decisions based on what history (which as we all know, repeats) tells us will occur if we pull switch A, B or C....Newt's your man. He's also a lying sack of shit politician who will say (beyond eloquently) exactly what he needs to say to win the election. He'll also (probably) be a phenomenal Prez. Huntsman will be his VP choice because the guy is so unbelievably freaking brilliant on foreign policy among other things.

Gingrich is running on his ego and hot air. Romney is the stronger candidate and will appeal to more independents because he's more likeable and will appeal to women more. He can't win because of his religon and for what he did as governor of Mass. but he is much stronger than Gingrich. The ironic thing about Romney is that once when there were moderate repubs, country club Rockefeller repubs Romney would have been except for his religion an ideal and even popular candidate within the party and to many independents. But when the republicans made their deal with the devil and cast their lot with the fundies and the Birchers they made a candidate like Romney unelectable. He will be defeated by his own party as much as the democrats. I don't think a lot of fundies are going to embrace Gingrich. The ones I know and I know quite a few don't like him especially the women. Also remember that when nutjob Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy and his three wives the flock did not follow him. Gingrich defeats himself by being himself. Even some conservative pundits have to hold their noses when talking about him. This is not 1968 and Obama isn't Humphrey. There isn't the social unrest that there was in 1968. Just some old farts wigged out that the world moved on without them. Yes, the economy is in the dumper, yes we have troops in harms way but it isn't 1968 where the silent majority is going to rise up and elect a stern daddy. Obama's critics are noisy and not the majority they reckon themselves to be.

FR With regard to Newt, my thinking is that his current rise in the polls is simply a result of it coming around to him, in a doorknob primary. I don't think being an asshole is an automatic disqualifier for the job, but I'll really be surprised if one so up front about it, holds the Republican fancy. As for Romney, the assumption that his faith is the problem seems like the typical liberal projection of their bigotry. It is subjective, of course, but what I get in every conversation where he comes up, is that people just get a creepy vibe off of him. He doesn't inspire trust, or confidence, or even much optimism.

I doubt Huntsman will be on the ticket as nominee for vice president. He is the same religion as Romney. He was intellectually honest enough to say scientist know what they're talking about in regards to climate change. And most of all he served under Obama. That his service and experience should be seen as a positive will be lost on the mouth foamers. Newt the historian? I'm sure he knows more about Paul Revere than Sarah Palin.

Actually, Rich. Westboro doesn't belong to any of the Baptist denominations. They just call themselves that but they have no sanction.
