so you think the current list of wannabes is so bad that you feel that someone is just waiting in the wings to blast them all to hell?
I dont have your confidence Rich.

Maybe you missed it, Lucy, but the gorilla in the wings has allowed his staff to make it official.  Rick Perry will be announcing he's running this weekend.  If you're not familiar with the 3-term Governor of Texas, you'll despise him soon enough, I'm sure.  He's going to make the proggies foam at the mouth, but if I had to place a bet right now, I'd say he's going to be the nominee.  He isn't my first pick, but I try not to bet with my heart.

quote:

Im not surprised his ratings are low, are you?? considering the economy, the job situation and the clusterfuck with housing and mortgages and wall street, its a hugest clusterfuck EVER and no one else is trying to put it together, of course his numbers are bad. No one else could have made any of it better, and probably would have made it a lot worse.

Oh I disagree very strongly with you here, Lucy.  Check out the Westen piece in last weekend's NYT.  President Obama is very much part of the problem.  We have badly gimped up economy, international instability, and a leader of the free world who can't lead his way out of a wet paper bag.  Instead he's still reminding us of what all he inherited, and the answer is, "yeah, and you were supposed to fix it."  Americans don't care much for whiners, who won't accept responsibility.  That's what is bringing those numbers down.

That said, I still think the election is Obama's to lose.  Incumbency has its advantages, the template of class warfare and "push granny off the cliff," Republican extremism is already in place, and the race card that Obama has not personally played might be a big enough trump.  We'll have to wait and see where we go from here, huh?

Being that there are no actual "potential competitors" this is not that big a problem.

Will you prefer salt & vinegar, or a sweet barbeque sauce, Mike, when it comes time to eat these words?  Or maybe just hold your nose, chew fast, and wash the taste out of your mouth with some over-rated sour mash?

Barring a complete meltdown from either side, this one is going to be close.

Oh, for God's sake.

The economy started a free fall back in Bush's term and has not yet fully recovered but you want to place that on Obama?

International instability? Who took us into Iraq and Afghanistan?

How quickly do you think those major problems can be fixed?

TheHeretic -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/11/2011 11:52:02 PM)

See, Lucy?  The mere mention of his name promptly brings out a hit-piece on Perry, and a lame attempt from RML to get me to tell him about the news of the world, instead of staying with the topic.

mnottertail -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/12/2011 5:55:30 AM)

Yeah, I see what you are getting at with your laser like insight into Michelle Bachmann.

Since when is staying on topic a forte of anyfuckingbody in this particular shithole of a forum?

Lucylastic -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/12/2011 7:42:09 AM)

Theres been crap out there about Perry ever since he "thought " about texas splitting from the states, and a lot of his angles are ugly and very little he stands for I would ever think about voting for the twat, and for the USA? nope, the numbers coming out of texas I dont think he is fiscally responsible either, hes robbing peter to pay paul, the abstinence only numbers are staggeringly high enough to render that decision a TOTAL wrong one, and if you think he is your great white hope for pres 2012 well Im sorry for all of you, and all of US that deal with the fallout from the crap.
His religious beliefs I think toss him out of being good for a country with freedom of religion, and massive numbers of legal immigrants, the last thing you need is him.
He may well get a nomination, but he deserves as much condemnation as any of them

Well than allow me to repeat them, wouldn't want you to forget I said them...The Republican party is in complete disarray at this point....putting forth no one,let me repeat that,no one at all who has a snowballs chance in hell of unseating the President. There is no candidate on the horizon who can change that equation,as a matter of fact there are a few, including Perry and let's throw in Palin, who will only serve to muddy further the Republican waters.
Face it Rich till 2016 your party is dead in Presidential politics....look towards Rubio,Bush and maybe Christy at that point...but for different reasons these fellows will sit out '12 which is smart of them, and run the next time around.

TheHeretic -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/12/2011 6:05:13 PM)

Right, Mike.  [8|]  And all the "smart" Democrats sat out the '92 race because Bush I was unbeatable...

Like I said, Perry wouldn't be my choice, but if I had to place a bet right now, I'd put it on him to be the nominee, and President Obama's fate on election day will be his own to make.  At the moment, he's not doing so hot making the bed he's going to have to sleep in.

Fuckit.  I'm going for dinner, and a margarita or three.

Can Republicans possibly find one more nutcase to run?

did you feel the same way when people said they would vote for anyone but bush?

..to be fair, less strongly. I felt he did the US few favours and the world none at all.

But all the 'anything but X' campaigns make me uneasy.

They give a free pass, to the challenger, where none should exist.

Politics should always be an pro-active process, not a reactive one. All 'AB whatever' campaigns are, by definition, reactive.

outhere69 -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/13/2011 8:02:11 AM)

Jeebus. 'Twas Bachmann as the subject eh?

If she were elected, you might as well write off any connection with the founding fathers. She's a Dominionist (as noted earlier) and any kinky/gay/lesbian, etc. would be executed. Oh yeah, and the cheaters. Do you suppose the dudes get executed too?

I didn't know a whole lot about her past history until I read the New Yorker profile.

Oh well, it's really not so bad on this board, believe it or not. I just read a few pages of comments on Yahoo News (re:Packers' team member forgetting his ID), and really, the Yahoo guys make Sanity & RO look like mere innocents.

masternoname -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/17/2011 2:48:45 PM)

I agree

It would be nice if they could just run someone that is worth voting for but I am not holding my breath

You are full of shit....you are a definite "anyone but Obama" voter, claiming to be anything but is just intellectual dishonesty.

being kinky and pro republican is about like being black and pro KKK.

That's bullshit, Got, and a completely gratuitous use of the race card as well.

Sadly I wasn't able to have this conversation in a timely manner; I wasn't trying to play the race card, I was endeavoring to play the minority card because that's what we are talking about. The republican party as an organization is working to oppress certain minority groups.

Would you apply the same comparison to anybody who owns a gun, and supports the Democrats?

Well, if I was a gun I certainly wouldn't support the Democrats.

EternalHoH -> RE: Do any conservatives here support Michelle Bachmann? (8/27/2011 2:10:54 PM)

On the republican side, I gotta stick with Barry Goldwater.   But he's not runnin, so Ron Paul is the closest approximate.

And no, hunky has not been by to proselytize me.
