Fightdirecto -> Tea Party deficit hawk won't pay his child support (7/30/2011 8:24:01 AM)

Chicago Sun-Times
quote:

Freshman U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, a tax-bashing Tea Party champion who sharply lectures President Barack Obama and other Democrats on fiscal responsibility, owes more than $100,000 in child support to his ex-wife and three children, according to documents his ex-wife filed in their divorce case in December.

“I won’t place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids and grandkids unless we structurally reform the way this town spends money!”
Walsh says directly into the camera in his viral video lecturing Obama on the need to get the nation’s finances in order.

Walsh starts the video by saying, “President Obama, quit lying. Have you no shame, sir? In three short years, you’ve bankrupted this country.”

In court documents, after his ex-wife, Laura Walsh, asked a judge to suspend his driver’s license until he paid his child support, Joe Walsh asks his ex-wife’s lawyer: “Have you no decency?”...

An intense, silver-haired firebrand, Walsh, 49, has taken cable TV by storm in recent weeks, becoming the unofficial spokesman for the “No compromise” faction of the Republican majority in the U.S. House — refusing to consider any debt crisis solution that includes raising taxes on the wealthy...

Joe and Laura Walsh had been married 15 years when she filed for divorce in December 2002. The thickness of the court file reflects Laura Walsh’s nine years of trying to collect child support and expenses from a man who crusades against compromise. Laura Walsh went to court repeatedly over the past nine years to get him to pay up, sometimes even asking the court to garnish his wages, court records show.

In 2004, Laura Walsh complained in a motion that despite her ex-husband’s claims of poverty, he took a vacation to Mexico with his girlfriend and another to Italy...

In addition to the foreclosure on his condominium, Walsh was haunted during his campaign by disclosures of liens on his property from unpaid bills and staffers abandoning his campaign, saying he wasn’t paying them.

Keith Liscio, who said Walsh hired him to be campaign manager — Walsh disputes that — has sued Walsh for $20,000 in salary he said Walsh owes him. Both sides are trying to settle that case.

Staffers learned during the campaign that Walsh was driving on a suspended license. His license was suspended twice in 2008 for his failure to appear in court, and he was cited in 2009 for driving on a suspended license, according to the Illinois Secretary of State.

Representative Joe "Dead-Be Dad" Walsh obviously knows all about deficit spending and not paying one's bills.

He "won’t place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids" - but he's already effectively put $100,000 of debt on the backs of his kids by his "no compromise" position on paying his child support.

He probably considers his court-ordered child support to be a "wasteful entitlement" and not an obligation. Shows great "family values", doesn't he?

And we need two threads on this, why? The best part of the story is that joke of a network MSNBC has banned him from their broadcasts. Ooooooh the ignominy.

Yeah, they should have him on ALL the time and run a chyron under him with the exact $ amount he's in arrears...

Excellent idea. Watching numbers scroll by is about all the MSNBC audience can handle intellectually.

Well, I know that you are innumerate, you have a multitude of posts that can demonstrate that, so since it is invisible to you, like so much other truth and fact, you can remain as ignorant as you wish.

family values are important! (except for *my* family)

pfft.

cloudboy -> RE: Tea Party deficit hawk won't pay his child support (7/30/2011 9:33:12 PM)

That is messed up; like the closeted gay Republicans voting for anti-gay legislation.

erieangel -> RE: Tea Party deficit hawk won't pay his child support (7/30/2011 9:41:27 PM)

This guy really burns me up. One thing is for certain, with such stellar family values, he is bound to become a right wing hero.

tweakabelle -> RE: Tea Party deficit hawk won't pay his child support (7/30/2011 9:50:41 PM)

Is any one surprised?

Gingrich has been down this path in the not too recent past hasn't he? Is lecturing the country on its obligations and dispensing homilies on thrift, morals and fiscal responsibility while ignoring one's own obligations, behaving immorally and displaying personal fiscal irresponsibility a wing nut rite of passage?

"Family values' has always been about denying the rights of others, not promoting or defending the 'family'. "Fiscal responsibility' has always been about lower wages and conditions, reduced Medicare and social services for the serfs and as-much-as-I-can-grab-for-me-and-more for the favoured, the rich and the powerful. "Not a penny more debt" means tax breaks for the mega-rich and less for the needy.

As usual, the politics of the Right are about greed and hypocrisy dressed up in holier-than-thou sanctimonious platitudes designed to fool the credulous. Judging by the posts from wing nuts' posts here you'd have to agree that this strategy has been quite successful with that particular demographic.

So the Dems don't have any dirty laundry!

Nobody made that claim at all.

If you want to start a thread about a Dem showing hypocrisy, feel free to do so.

I read that it was just one guy that banned him from his show?

But, what do I know?

Is there any way to kick the asshat, known as wilbur, off of this site?

Why is it whenever somebody points out the hypocrisy of the right, their minions respond with that same state. Each. And. Every. Time.

While your suggestion has self evident merits, I wouldn't be in favour of it. My experience is that, in politics, one's opponents can never be stupid enough. A singular feature of Willbur's contributions is their stupidity.

So for this reason, and this reason alone, it's useful to have him around. If the other side is as utterly deranged as Willbur's posts demonstrate, that's half the battle won.

Should we be sending him Thank You notes instead? [:D]

No. That level of ignorance brings the entire debate down. Imagine the type of debate the US could have had about health care if they didn't have to waste so much breath on death panels, socialism, and whether the President is really a Muslim who was born in Kenya.

The more capable and informed your opponent is, the more capable and informed you have to be. Since the point is to build a strong society, not just to "win," this is a good thing.

PS I can't stand Wilbur. It galls me that someone can claim to read an article and watch an interview about the Herman Cain mosque controversy and come away not even knowing the rudimentary facts...yet still be politically active and casting votes. Democracy can't work in ignorance. But that pains me...it doesn't give me cause to celebrate that I might "win" because what sort of victory is it anyway, to win a nation of fools?
