i think we over rate love as a criteria of a d/s relationship

perhaps contentment should be given more prominence

thoughts?

Who's "we"? You and the mouse in your pocket?

Perhaps you should not lump us all into your thoughts.

For some, contentment in a relationship is not possible without love. And of course in many relationships, contentment is impossible even in spite of the love. But in my experience, a successful relationship requires both. If there is no love, I can not be content.

yes love is over rated... sometimes i can not feel it at all
i don't agree with the contentment instead though... too... boring

i go for a mixture of respect and passion

that has a name out of the gay community, dom rot, but they were speaking of love in general, one wished that she wasn't married to her master

yes i have heard that too but more from doms...
it seems that a lot of subs need to be loved before they submit
but some Doms can't be as 'nasty' as they need/want to be as soon as they love the sub...
odd that

still... respect and passion nicely skirts around that whole problem

ETA am slow today... they can always get a divorce... it is real easy nowadays

If you see love as emotional attachment, then I’d agree; if you see love as the steps taken when another’s wellbeing is imperative to your own; then, no.

The second should bring about contentment, eventually; though it is not always easy to see at the time of occurrence.

My owner has never said he loves me in the entire decade that I've known him. I'm certain he's incredibly fond of me, it's clear that he's content owning me ....and it's clear that I'm content to be owned by him. Life with him is ridiculously exciting, fun and has got more so year on year ......... I don't care if he *loves* me ........... I can't imagine what more could be added if he did.

Contentment is in my situation........ it's not how I FEEL for him. I wouldn't use the word *love* either....... it's boring and overused and I can only be sure that I love my parents and my children.

If you want a relationship without love, then make that clear when you approach women.
But don't slam those of us who do need it and won't contemplate a relationship without it.

Personally I couldn't be content living with someone without love. YMMV

I do believe you made a commitment with yourself to just get lots of points added to your name, so those new coming to CM for the first time, will think you must know what you are talking about.  I swear it must be trick or treat day here:)

smiling while i wrote that. i love a cosmic irony.
