Which one should I sign up for?
I prefer easier rather than more difficult games.
I prefer not to spend oodles of time farming for gold or equipment.
I enjoy the fantasy roleplay aspects over the technical aspects of a game.
I prefer that a game allows me to pause in some way, without my coming back to find my character has been killed while I was AFK.

Which of these are a better fit for me?
If "neither", does anyone know of a better game of this type?

Alumbrado -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 6:12:40 AM)

EverQuest is far, far more difficult than WoW.
WoW requires a bit less time, I think, but both are time whores.
EQ's going to show you more realistic lore than WoW.
EQ has a "Gate" spell for casters that allows them to teleport back to a predetermined "bind point".  Both EQ and WoW have guards in different areas where you can rest at- WoW provides more of these.  EQ has areas where you can simply rest, though, without monsters being an issue.

I've played both extensively.  EQ's a lot more realistic, but a complete time whore.  I think they've alterred it since I quit a couple years back to be much better about this, but I can't promise you it's fixed or not.  WoW is.. okay.  After playing EQ a lot, then going to WoW, this has to be said:  WoW is easy.  Very, very easy.  It's aimed at a massive audience, many of who are very young.  You won't find any semblence of challenge in the game until the late levels, and, even in the end-game (which you likely won't see if you don't sink a lot of time into it), it's still pretty damn easy.

IrishMist -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 7:15:16 AM)

I would have to agree with everything that CuriousLord said.

I play EQ and have since beta and I like it much better than WOW but it is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL time whore and they keep pushing expansions out so fast that you can not keep up.

Wow is good for the fact that you can accomplish something in very little time, but I find that it is really pretty boring.

DomKen -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 7:16:11 AM)

I'm not a big fan of either. As CuriousLord said WoW is very easy but still requires quite a lot of time invested while EQ is going to require a lot of farming to get anywhere. It's a different genre but I recommend City of Heroes/Villains. It's challenging without being impossible and the player's are pretty friendly and good about helping new players.

LOL I hated CoH but that was probably because I am die hard EQer. [8D]

I'm a fan of WoW. Yes it's easier, and that's why I like it. I want to be able to enjoy the game in a casual manner and wow is much better for that!

I think this thread belongs in the Gorean section.

City of Heroes/City of Villains
1) very stight forward missions
2) there is no farming for the equilvent of gold and you don't have equipment
3) there is actualy a reason to do things for your super group (aka guild), as you finish mission your group gains points, which then are spent to improve the groups base
4) once you clear a section of a mission (epsecialy indoor missions), there are no respawns, litterly I have had my character sit at the site of his last battle for 6 real hours and was never attacked.

This and what CuriousLord said make me think WoW is the game for me. I'm not up for much of a challenge, and my time is fractured with family and Master needing my time, so I'd rather not be given too much.

My geeky son is going to set up a free WoW server so that he can twink me, making it even less of a challenge. LOL

Zensee -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 2:25:01 PM)

Why an online game? If you want a slower paced gaming experience and flexible playing times, try the Thief series or one of the other first person "sneakers".

Wyldheart1969 -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 2:41:32 PM)

I've played Everquest for years and although it can take tons of time, I also have a friend who plays just a few hours at a time, he has enjoyed it immensely.

WoW has very little challenge and I would say it is more for folks that like to PvP.

Good luck whichever game you choose.  If you choose EQ and would like some help let me know.

I disagree. I hate pvp :P

I play on an RP server and just love it...As for challenge, it sort of depends. I love video games but have never been very "good" at them, so for me, it has at least a decent amount of challenge. I enjoy that I can pick it up and play without constantly dying and getting frustrated.

CuriousLord -> RE: Everquest or World of Warcraft? (4/29/2007 4:00:03 PM)

This thread makes me happy.  I'm going to buy it a Velium Crested Wedding Band and ask it to marry me in Twlight Ocean, then sex it up under the waterfall in Surefall Glade.

Hey, I'm a Druid at heart.. SFG is my home!  Besides, waterfall sex is awesome.  :D

(Plus I already had a RP weddings at the UFO in NQeynos and Twlight Sea.  I played on Rallos Zek, so PK's constantly bombared the TS one.  Heh.. we spent most of the wedding hunting down and corpse camping those foolish enough to disturb the ceremonies.)
