marc2b, Sanity, mnottertail (and Mod 11): I couldn't agree more. Maybe I am either naive or in complete denial, but I can't figure out how anyone can really be all that scared of a government that clearly lacks the ability to coordinate efforts to:
1) Balance the national checkbook (Treasury)
2) Organize a recoup of even a quarter of all the Hurricane Katrina mess, when they've had over a year and a half to do it (and promised they would)
3) Went into a war without bothering to verify if there was a truly viable threat, or even ensure our miliatry had the proper equipment on hand to fight, and enough soldiers to do that with.
4) The Department of Homeland security cannot monitor aiport or sea-going vessel cargo holds at all, or very well (depending on location). Loads of methapetamine, heroin, cocaine, and human underage (and adult) real-life slave trafficking occurs on a regular basis. They cannot appear to even monitor our national borders very well at all. What in heck would make someone really believe they'd be able to monitor yours?
They can't even seem to get a top exec that can, or will, stick with the job. The practical application of their "mission statement" is all over the place. They are underfunded, and don't have the manpower, or the current competence, to monitor all of the stuff that is going on on these areas already deemed by them as "more serious" (in their own words) let alone monitor the intent of more inconsequential (to them) citizens 1-4,000 on a bdsm website who might be swinging a flogger on week-ends. I think I have not much to worry about, and I just can't get real terrified.
Maybe they want you to think you should be terrified - after all, that might cut down on them having to even think of, let alone, actively monitor you (they are grossly underfunded, after all) but IMO, a lot of the time it seems to me this government of ours can barely keep their own shoes tied, if they know how to even do that.
Supposing they had data files from CM - is it very likely they really have enough manpower, competence, and the inclination to do anything with them?
IMO: No. make that a resounding No.
No offense to the good cops, and security folks who may work for the Feds out there (I know they do their best when and where it really counts, sometimes, as they are able.)
But I have to say -
That department is underfunded, understaffed, and appears, based on most evidence I've read, (three major news magazines, and on a weekly basis) to have a poor sense of coordination and direction - look at the evidence of that instead, for a second or two.
Yeah - I'm terrified. I'm shaking in my shoes, in fact.
I'd be much more concerned about a potential IRS tax return audit, if I were you.  
If you are a heroin dealer or something of that ilk, and also on this site, you might then have something to worry about. If you're not, I say - RELAX.
