If i may hijack the thread for a moment, I just want to express my profound embarrassment at not getting the quesion about Saturn's moons last night. I even googled it, which I rarely do, because it was so frustrating - i felt like the answer was right in front of my nose, and I just couldn't see it. Perhaps it was because i was tired. I'd just spent an hour driving back to Ventura from LA, and it was late. What was i doing in LA so late? Well, I was at Griffith Observatory, looking through their telescope. What was I looking at? Saturn, among other things. I should probably be disqualified from ever playing this game again.

Hah! They all have observatories! And they all have pandas, too. In their zoos! But I don't believe those pandas are allowed to use those observatories. Which is a pity.

OK, for the 20th Century history buffs - Poland Bulgaria Romania Hungary I know these countries have a lot of things in common, so I'll start you all out with 2 clues. Albania could also be on this list, but technically speaking, no other country could.

Hmmm. They were founding members of the Warsaw Pact, but then so were the Czechoslovak Republic, the German Democratic Republic and the U.S.S.R. But is that the direction you're going, or something else? In WWII, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania first allied with Germany, then later with the Soviet Union (not sure about Albania). Or...they all freed themselves with the Ottoman Turks? The Revolutions of 1989, throwing off communist rule? But then, that includes East Germany and Czechoslovakia. Former Warsaw Pact members who now belong to NATO? But then, that list would be longer. A quandary.

I don't know. His reference to history buffs turns me in that direction. But he's a crafty Panda. "Though the Giant Panda is often assumed to be docile, it has been known to attack humans, presumably out of irritation rather than predatory behavior." Wikipedia says nothing about Panda behavior in constructing puzzles, however. I guess I'm bamboozled.

The four on my list (as well as Albania) are the only countries that are NATO members in the same form as they existed in the Warsaw Pact. I thought that would make it a little easier for people to research it.

I believe these people were all part of the negotiations for the Louisianna Purchase. Madison was Secretary of State and did the negotiations with the rulers of France (Napoleon), England (George III) and Russia (Alexander I). Spain was involved as well.

What a good thought! I'm not aware of any role Alexander or George III played in the Louisiana Purchase, though. The connection is later than the Louisiana Purchase.
