Interesting...

So who do you think will win and why?  ( just to keep this thread on topic [;)])

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (6/18/2007 6:38:03 PM)

The Steelers, because their 2nd unit D can contain the Saints' 2nd string O. [X(]

fairerthanshe -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (6/18/2007 7:06:55 PM)

I'd take the Steelers too, but that might be my inherent bias against Reggie Bush.  Maybe...

I noticed you were first, actually.

How does the NFL decide who plays at the HOF Game?

Hall of Fame Game Series: The Hall of Fame Game series began in 1962, one year before the museum opened.  A National Football League preseason game has been played at Fawcett Stadium each year but one since that inaugural game.   No game was played in 1966 as the preseason schedule was not set in time to include Canton for a neutral site game.

Beginning in 1971, following the AFL-NFL merger, an AFC vs. NFC format was adopted for the Hall of Fame series.  Preset schedules were created that called for each team to make a visit to Canton over 14- and 15-year periods through 1994.  In 1995, the NFL selected the Hall of Fame Game to showcase the debut of the league’s newest expansion teams – the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars.  Since that time, the NFL designates the teams for the Hall of Fame Game on a season-by-season basis.  The game normally includes teams with significant milestones (such as the return of the Cleveland Browns in 1999 and the Houston Texans inaugural game in 2002) or a connection to the Hall’s most recent class.

In 2006, the Hall of Fame Game returned to Sunday.  The Hall of Fame games were played on Sunday afternoons from 1963 to 1965.  The inaugural game and those played from 1967 through 1997 were played on Saturday afternoons.  Then, in 1998, the Hall of Fame game was switched to primetime with kickoff moved to Saturday evening.  One year later, the game moved to Monday night.

The Hall of Fame Game was televised nationally by ABC from 1971-2005 and broadcast by NBC in 2006.  NFL Network will televise the 2007 AFC-NFC Hall of Fame Game as the Pittsburgh Steelers kick off their 75th anniversary season against the New Orleans Saints.

Okay, that explains it for the Steelers.  I wonder if the goofy, Cowher-looking mastcot will make the trip.

For comedic purposes, I hope so [:D]

Level you're correct that I am one of the Blessed, being a Steelers fan. I can't bring myself to put in Montana (Pennsylvanian though he is) or Elway etc. Joe, and the Niners success was in large part a creature of the rules: defense, especially in how one covers recievers was severely limited to put higher scores and more "excitement" in the game. Yes Terry had the stats you listed, however you didn't put in two more that I think are more telling: 4 Superbowl wins in 6 years, and the fact that he called his own plays against the tough defenses of the good old days. I think Staubach, Fouts, Stabler, Bradshaw & co. had more to contend with in their day so i have trouble comparing them with the QB's of today. The constant evolution of the game makes comparrisons tricky if one just uses numbers to decide the "greatest" ever. Out here in the land of the infidel, I get all kinds of grief because I will not call Jerry Rice THE greatest of all time. One of the best, yes, but I can't definitively say the best. I think maybe it should all be done perhaps by decade?

Eric, you make a good point, about the 4 titles Bradshaw and company won; I tried to find some kind of winning percentage stats for the QBs, but haven't, as of yet.

Dan Fouts..... forgot about him, what a freaking cannon of an arm. And what a WR group to throw to - Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner, John Jefferson, and Wes Chandler.

All Decade teams....... hmmm.

How did vacation go?

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Nike has no plans to dump Michael Vick from its roster of celebrity athletes, turning aside a request from the national Humane Society to cut ties with the Atlanta Falcons quarterback over alleged ties to dogfighting.

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, on Tuesday released a letter that he sent to the apparel giant.

Out of the shower yet, Level?

I saw the Vick/Nike story last night. I just bought a new pair of Nike's a few weeks ago, and it will be my last pair until this matter is cleared up. Just my own little protest on behalf of the doggies that have * allegedly * suffered at his hands.

Hmm, the vacation? It didn't happen, a little fly in the ointment. [:(]

My opinion of who needs to be gone from the NFL (this week, anyway)
Pacman Jones
Ron Mexico

It's not too late, Katy.

YOU, yes, YOU could be part of Steeler's history.

You may just get half your wish.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/story/2007/06/20/jones-charges.html

I don't see this boding well for him. Here's a snipet that * may * link him to the shooter:

"The district attorney had asked police to identify a shooter.
Police don't do that.
But they do put Jones walking away from the club with a man wearing a baggy black T-shirt and blue jeans.
Police say that minutes later, a similarly dressed man is seen standing next to a palm tree firing five or six shots toward people at the front of the club."

ManInTheBox -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (6/20/2007 1:26:44 PM)

The Cowboys should make another run this year :) Of course the Colts and Pats will be there. Not just because they're good but because they've proved they could win even with people hurt. Making it to the playoffs relies just as much on how a team's health holds up to how good they actually are
