TahoeSadist -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (6/18/2007 6:47:26 AM)

I could go with that list for the most part, but with a couple changes: First, insert God at QB (ok, that does actually spell Bradshaw) my take on the "best QB" thing is this: The Steelers have always been *and hopefully will remain so* a run first offense. So when Terry threw, EVERYONE knew a pass was coming it seemed, and yet it still worked. Also, you were allowed to play serious defense back in the day, something these "West Coast Offense"-loving, primadonnas don't understand today.

The other major change I'd have to make is at cornerback. I have a strange way of looking at things: I like a defensive player who actually *can* tackle, (oh yeah, and I detest showboaters) thus in place of Sanders I'd have to agree with the NFL's 75 year All Time Team and pick Rod Woodson at CB. Yeah, you may not have wanted to throw in either his or Sander's areas, but if you didn't Rod would bring the corner blitz like no one's business and he also helped stuff the run.

As a last, there should be room on the D-line for a gentleman some of you may have heard of.........Mean Joe Greene.

Okay, Eric, I'm not sure, correct me if I'm wrong, but you would seem to be a Steeler's fan. [:D]

Point by point:

Bradshaw was a winner, but I stand by him needing his supporting cast moreso than some other all-time greats. Plus, he only finished with 2 more TDs in his career than INTs; he was not one of the most accurate throwers, always hovering around 50% completion ratio.

TDs        INTs        Comp %         Games played

Bradshaw          212          210         51.9                 168
Staubach            153          109        57.0                  131
Montana             273         139         63.2                 192
Elway                 300          226        56.9                  234

About Deion Sanders; I can't disagree with his tackling, uhhh, skills LOL. Thank God corners play near the sideline! But I've never seen anyone cover like him, and he was electrifying when returning kicks. But no, I wouldn't have a problem with Woodson being picked, he's one of the all-time best, and the most complete DB.

Joe Who? [X(]

Kidding aside, Greene was to be my pick if I had put Reggie White at DE.

Arrington hospitalized after crash

Former Redskins and Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington was hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle crashed on a highway ramp Monday, police said.
Arrington lost control and hit a guardrail, Maryland State Police Sgt. Russell Newell said. He said police did not know how fast Arrington was traveling.

Arrington, who turns 29 Wednesday, was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not involved in the accident, Newell said. Arrington was issued two citations - one for operating the motorcycle without a proper license and the other for the crash itself.

Police want to talk to Pacman after shootout

Suspended NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones was being sought by police for questioning about a shooting early Monday involving members of his entourage after a fight at an Atlanta strip club.
The Tennessee Titans cornerback is currently on suspension following a melee and shooting at a Las Vegas strip club.

Jones, his group and three other people got into a fight, apparently over a woman, at a club around 4 a.m., officer Ariel Toledo said. Someone from Jones' group threatened the three men, who told a security officer at the club about it.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Jim Norton, a four-time AFL All-Star safety and an original member of the Houston Oilers, has died. He was 68.

Norton died June 12 in Garland, a Dallas suburb, according to an obituary released by the Gonzalez Funeral Home. A cause of death was not given.

Born in Los Angeles, Norton was a three-sport athlete at Fullerton Union High School. He played football for four seasons at Idaho before he was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1960. He never played for the Lions, instead joining the Houston Oilers that same year, when they won the first AFL championship.

fairerthanshe -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (6/18/2007 4:19:27 PM)

Thanks for putting the stats up Level.  It reminded me of a joke I heard, one of my all time faves:

What's the difference between Joe Montana and a dollar bill?

A dollar bill is good for four quarters.

My apologies to all the Joe Montana enthusiasts...granted this was after the trade from SF.

well wishes ~ fairer

You're welcome, fairer.

Good joke about Montana [;)]; don't think it's true, but as I dislike the 49ers, I'll chuckle anyway.
