Nice links, Level. Thanx.

I guess I'm a bit surprised the Steelers are tring to lock Big Ben up so soon, given his contract isn't up til 2009. < I thought it was up 2008>. I would want to at least see how he  performs this season or a [portion of this season. Kinda like insurance, that last year was a fluke, due to all his problems. But you know those Rooney's, they are a very loyal ownership.

Please say a little prayer for Marquise Hill. Most of you won't recognize the name, but he is a back up player for the Patriots.
He's a pretty local figure here and alot of my friends  < grown > kids  know and hang with him.

"(CBS) BOSTON New England Patriots defensive end Marquise Hill is missing in Louisiana after a jet skiing accident. His agent, Albert Elias, told CBS and a woman were on a jet ski in Lake Pontchartrain during the day Sunday when they hit a wave and fell off.
Elias said Hill, 24, saved the woman's life by helping her float to a nearby pylon, but Hill drifted in another direction."

The Patriots Org. has commented about an hour ago. I heard it on the news, so if I find a link later I will add it.

Wow, consider it done, mb. I hope he's okay.

Thanx, my friend. [:D] Local news isn't too optimistic, but it hasn't been changed to a recovery effort, yet.

Sad news.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The body of New England Patriots player Marquise Hill was found Monday, a state official said, a day after he was reported missing following a jet ski accident on Lake Pontchartrain.

Hill's body was discovered by searchers about a quarter-mile from where the former LSU star and a female companion were involved in the accident, Capt. Brian Clark of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department said.

"The family will have to make positive identification," Clark said, "but the body we found was that of Mr. Marquise Hill."

Ron Mexico has been implicated as being deeply into dog fighting.  Sources are saying that this entire situation could turn into a blight on the NFL, with many players being involved and that there is fear that Mexico will go public about everything.  Stay tuned...

mbmbn - sorry to hear about your player

happypervert -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (5/29/2007 7:11:19 AM)

After the way Ron Mexico has been lying about his "pets", I bet Goodell will come down even harder on him.

Gee, I wonder if the Falcons are regretting that they just traded Matt Schaub away?

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (5/29/2007 7:18:13 AM)

On the radio this morning I heard a conversation centered around the fact that the NFL will try to wait until more information is forth coming, but that it is possible at this point and with what's currently known that Vick will probably be suspended for the season or longer.  The NFL will tread carefully because of the player's union and not wanting to do anything too soon (without more backup, although I think they just received what they needed).

TahoeSadist -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (5/29/2007 7:19:56 AM)

It will be interesting to see how the new regime at the NFL will handle a player who has one of the most recognizable names in the league. No to mention the Falcon organization itself. Maybe Trent Green will find a home after all?

Interesting point, Eric. And I would imagine KC would get more out of Atlanta now than they would have before all this, certainly they'll get more than Miami would offer.

I heard on Mike and Mike in the Morning that Vick is just one of many NFL players who is deep into this whole dogfighting thing.  I do hope they get suspended if it is true. I have a pretty strong disdain for animal abusers, on a par with the " funny uncle " types.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (5/29/2007 8:18:16 PM)

It's disgusting.  They talked, on the radio this morning, about 40 minute dog fights and how they get dogs from shelters and use them as training dogs (meaning their job is to be killed), and then how the fighting dogs usually have to be euthanized because they can't rehab them into "normal" dogs after they've been trained to kill.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Authorities have a search warrant to look for as many as 30 dog carcasses on property owned by Michael Vick that is at the center of a dog fighting investigation. But the warrant has not been executed. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6857960 Yes, it's disgusting. It goes on down here quite a bit, but the police do try to stop it, at least.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (5/30/2007 2:50:57 AM)

I just read a story about the search warrant, it has not yet been executed.  The house has been sold.  At some point they may be in there digging up the back yard area.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Gene Upshaw was taken aback when he first saw the list of retired NFL players applying for financial help under a new program to help those with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

"I played with or against quite a few of these guys," the executive director of the NFL players' union said Wednesday. "I knew one or two were having problems, but I never knew the extent."

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter pleaded no contest Wednesday and paid a $1,000 fine for punching Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones after a disagreement at a casino blackjack table.

Porter did not appear in Las Vegas Justice Court while his lawyer, Karen Winckler, entered the plea to a misdemeanor battery charge and paid the fine, said a court aide to Justice of the Peace Pro Tem James Gubler. Gubler accepted the plea.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- On a recent trip back home to Louisiana, Dwayne Bowe ran into an old friend, a former teammate from LSU. They caught up on old times before saying goodbye.

Then, a few days later, Bowe got a call he'll never forget.

DENVER (AP) -- Broncos receiver David Kircus's job is no longer in jeopardy over allegations he threw a punch that landed a man in the hospital with multiple facial fractures.

Coach Mike Shanahan, who had pledged to release Kircus if it was determined he was at fault in the fight, said Tuesday that Kircus passed a lie detector test administered by an expert. Kircus will remain with the team regardless of the legal outcome of his case.
