I can't take your word for the content

FYI, and you probably realise this, you replied to me, not LAM - I didn't say anything about any of that.

Just in case you did think that, you understand :)

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/18/2011 7:24:00 AM)

Yes, it was in reply to LAM. Sorry about that RF. [;)]

And now I will bow out of any further debate about the Patriots 2010 season. The Patriots are out and there are 3 great teams playing next week who deserve the attention.

Not a problem! I just didn't want you thinking I'd be nasty about the Pats – I'm certainly not a “Patriots hater”. I quite like the Patriots actually ... I recall the Parcells/Bledsoe years, when they went from being ... well let's be generous and say "not very good" to being a decent team. I used to like Bledsoe a lot; great attitude and a thinker too, and his charitable efforts were (probably still are but I don’t know about these days) many and laudable. I still think if he'd had better protection around him he'd have achieved even more; I recall one season where he got sacked some unspeakable number of times? If my often awful memory serves?

I have to say I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Packers/Steelers Superbowl. I even ordered a proper, official Terrible Towel this very day, to be couriered to me ASAP (so they'd better at least beat the Jets or I'll be highly miffed). I’ve always used a “non official” one; a black bar towel I bought years ago from the Black Sheep brewery* :) But it’s not terrible enough, so I’m getting a properly terrible one in :)

Ladies and gentlemen, we remain at TowelCon 3.

*it’s black and has “BAAAAAAAAAA towel” printed on it :)

That's being most generous. We flipping sucked . Back in the late 70's/early 80's I was a college student and new graduate, so my income was limited. The Patriotswere soooo bad, that they couldn't sell tickets. SO what we would do is this :
Pack up our tailgate goods, plenty of booze and reefer and head down to the stadium. We listened to the first half of the game on the radio, and then, at half time the gates were opened and it was free admission to the last half of the game ! Those were great days, just not in a football sense.

I've been a Pat's fan for 30+ years and lived thru the ugliest years. I said in 2001, when we won the SB, that I was completely satisfied as a fan, having lived to see us win a SB. 2 more was gravy. Nothing will ever beat the first. Quite honestly, this year was a nice surpise for me, I didn't see them going 14-2. One and done in the PO sucked, but I'm perfectly OK with it.

As for the Championship games, I'm def. sporting the Black and Gold, no surprise there. I'm also on the GB bandwagon. And should GB make it, I will be having a Cheese Fondue SB party[:D]. I'd like to see Rodger's get it. The kids got heart and mad skillz. So whatever you do, don't tell Katy, but in the Big One, I'll be pulling for GB if they both go.

Have fun with your new towel ! We all know I hate those towels. I was really pissed to see Pat's fans sporting those white towels at the game this past weekend. I shoulda known it was over the minute I saw those things.[8D]

There are certain sports that should only ever be watched either stoned or drunk (or both) - American Football is one of them :)

Sounds great though - football for free!

I have to confess I'm far more excited about the imminent arrival of my towel than any man my age has a right to be :)

And if it's not to be for the Steelers this year then I'd like to see Green Bay win it. Fondue party sounds ideal :)

A Jets/Bears final is not my idea of a good time.

I haven't heard the exit interviews. I can't take your word for the content, since you completely re invented BB's post game interview saying all he did was blame players. Which, of course, he did not. So I will read them myself.

But thank you for the " Jets* perspective ". It's always enlightening.

How's Sal Alosi doing these days ? How about Westhoff ? Is he making any false allegations against any one lately ? Pure class straight outta NY.

And yeah, we are going to have to throw the GB win out the window. The league is changing it to a loss, since we really didn't beat them. I think they did the same thing for any team who won against to the Pat's when Cassell had to take over for Brady. Ditto for Steeler's this year when Ben was on the bench, Dallas, after Romo went down and every other team who has ever lost the QB and had to play the back up. You got me wondering now. How does that work for the Redskins. Does it still count if the starting QB is pulled and they replace him with a back up ? Do those wins get tossed out the window too ? What about when a team rests their starters for the PO's ? Are those games nullified too ?

I think you're onto something, LAM. Any game that a starter is injured in, or can't play in, should not count towards their W/L ratio. Let's call Polian and get him to do some rule changing, that's the ticket.

Last I heard the NFL was looking at some tape from the Jet game earlier this year.Seems they are particularly interested in a wall of players along the sideline.....looking curiously like a "wall".
Where Belicheck and Co. are concerned do not be too quick to label "allegations" false.Bill has never missed a trick, notwithstanding the legality of said trick!

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/18/2011 1:43:42 PM)

I've already seen that tape, Mike. A few differences exist: It's players, not coaches on the sideleines. " The wall " is not a wall at all but loosely assembled players, they're not on one end of the sideline, they are in the main group of players, they're not nearly as close to the sidelines as the Jet's coaching staff was....and there was no contact. No one tripped anyone.

Like it or not... Jets cheated this year.

In regards to BB's illegal taping:
I have manned up here and everywhere else from day one, go check my 2007-present posts in this very thread. I haven't wasted my breath here trying to explain/debate what we were actually found in violation of... which is taping from an illegal position. Not the taping itself, which is legal. Because no one really wants to understand it, it's easier to say cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater. But as far as I understand.. tripping a player is illegal anyway you slice it. As is making false allegations. So... thems that do it is cheaters, cheaters, pumkin eaters. As in J-E-T-S *.

I'm unaware of any investigation by the NFL into these new allegations by Crable. If you have a link, I'd be happy to take a look.

This is pure speculation on my part, but reasonable, I think : Westhoff is a well respected coach throughout the league, with players, coaches and owners. From all we know, nothing but a stand up guy. So, I suspect he may have seen this tape and that provked the oral diarrhea in Chicago. When the Commish met with the Jets to investigate, it only makes sense Westhoff and the Jets would present a defense. I would think this tape you mention would have been shown to the Commish as proof that his allegations weren't allegations, but statements of fact. Following that logic, the Commish looked at it and deemed it not valid. Again, only a theory. We will all know soon enough, after the Commish hears the appeal.

The Jets have appealed their "spanking" and perhaps the tape will be used as evidence by the Jets, when they try and defend themselves. But to date, we are not being investigated. And let's say Westhoff wins that appeal and it is established we did do the same thing. Jets are still cheaters. If we are cheaters for it, so are they. And they have the Mad Tripper, Sal Alosi. That, not withstanding, Westhoff was supposed to go to the League with his allegations, not air them publically. That is where the rule violation lies. If he had proof or suspicion that the Patriots were doing the same thing, he needed to go to the league, not a Chicago radio show.

OMG ! Did any of you see Al Davis ? He was just on the NFL network about an hour ago.
I know he's 81 and all, but the poor bastard looks like the undead. Shockingly worse than the last photos I saw of him about a year ago. He had a band aid or something on his forehead and what looks like a split lip or cold sore.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/18/2011 3:30:04 PM)

Chicanery of this type has long been part and parcel of the NFL.Hell George Allen was sure George Halas had bugged his locker room( or was it the other way around)Spy Gate,Trip Gate....opening a large exit door when the other teams kicker is attempting a field goal,it's a win at any cost league.....I don't get too excited by such news.
But...and this is a big but when sideline personnel inject themselves into the contest(ala Mr. Alosi) that is an issue thhat must be addressed. As a Jet Fan the incident was embarressing ...and so was the teams response.Certainly any way you cut it ...it's a black mark for sure.
Al is sliding fast....strange how the fortunes of his franchise is mirroring his health slide.
p.s. Sorry but I have no link for the investigation...just something I heard(along with a running of the tape) from one of the talking heads.Perhaps it pans out....perhaps it doesn't......just don't try to seel me on the idea that Bellicheck is above such actions....They are all the same, fighting for each and every edge.....rules and fair play be dammed.Thats why we love to watch !

Spy Gate,Trip Gate....

I've sometimes wondered; if there was a scandal involving entry/exit doors for gardens, would the media label it GateGate?

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/18/2011 3:34:33 PM)

Now you are being silly...it would be GardenGate

5 seconds isn't a lot.

Besides, if that's idle speculation, what's the term for thinking the Jets might win the Superbowl?* ;)

*Not that I do, of course.

Actually there is no downplaying of this. You are allowed to tape the field of play. Absolutely no filming of coaches on the sidelines is allowed. The Pats stole other teams signals. It is that simple.

I have an original one packed away somewhere; haven't seen it in years. A friend of mine played for the Steelers in the lats 70s and early 80s.

I always loved that team, because I was a big Terry Bradshaw fan. My dream matchup would be the Steelers against my beloved Packers.

It would be a great game (except for the pre game interviews of Rothlisberger).

willbeurdaddy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/18/2011 5:19:17 PM)

The Steelers better do it with turnovers, defense and special teams. If the Jets had Brady and Manning totally confused, Rothlisberger, who is sacked 2-3 times as often as either TB or PM, isnt going to break them. Jets 24 Steelers 16
