That has something to do with it.  Big markets and revenue sharing is also part of the picture.

I would not say that either the JETS, PATRIOTS, STEELERS, or RAVENS is significantly better than either the Packers, Saints, or Falcons. Frankly, I think the margins separating the good NFL teams is small, which pretty much means that any game between good teams is a toss up with home field advantage being the biggest difference maker.

Closely matched talent and heated rivalries - what's not to love?

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/2/2010 9:53:42 PM)

I think all four of those AFC teams are better than any NFC team.  Frankly, I'm close to thinking the Chargers are better than any NFC team right now too.  I don't mean that no NFC could ever beat any AFC team--far from it.  The gap between the two conferences used to be greater.  But if they were playing on a neutral field, I'd pick the elite AFC teams over any of the elite NFC teams.

When it comes time for the Super Bowl, it's always matchups, matchups, matchups. The year the Pats went 18 wins and one Giant loss, they were blowing most teams out. I pointed out in a chat room half way throught the season that the team that could beat the Pats needed to be one that could apply pressure with the down 4, but those guys also had to be able to play the run too. The team also needed a good running attack and an above average offense. The only team that could have beat the Pats that year was the Giants, yet they just barely got by a Green Bay team, who matched up well with them.

I think the only NFC team with a chance is the defending champion Saints. They have balance once Bush gets back to the lineup, and their defense though not stellar, runs on the principle of just get a couple turnovers, a couple of stops, and you can't keep up on the scoreboard.

I'd love a rematch against them though, as my Steelers fell 20-10 greatly aided by a rare Heath Miller miscue.

I forgot to mention the Eagles, too.

Will be interesting who represents the NFC in the SB.

The Colts-Cowboys game is crazy.  Where the heck is Level?

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 5:03:22 PM)

I know... where IS Level ? I miss him.[:(]
Dallas/Indy was a great game. I was out to dinner  at a sports bar with my sister and brother in law, BIL is lifelong Dallas fan. He really had to hold back his usual rantings and ravings when things started to go Indy's way. Of course < cough, cough, > my sister and I were very supportive and had lots of positive input for him.[8D]

What's up with Peyton ? 11 INTs in 3 games ? He's had good protection, but just doesn't seem to be able to make it happen. I think they are the biggest surprise fior me. 6-6. Even with injuries, and I know they are riddled with them, I really  thought they would be better.

Next up....... Pitt/ Balt.
! Go Steelers !

Yay, should be an excellent, old school hard hitting game, love the rivalry!

Not sure what is going on with Peyton, really weird.

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 5:44:29 PM)

Hard hitting, alright ! Looks like Ben got his nose broken, saw the replay. Hit didn't look clean to me.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 5:45:16 PM)

OMG, his nose looks horrible.  He is so beat up.  And he's a drama injury queen, but that looks bad

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 5:49:44 PM)

Todd Heap out for the game.  Ben is used to having his face messed up, remember that motorcycle accident.

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 6:48:54 PM)

I about spit my gut when they showed that pic of Ben's *** not broken *** nose !  My first thought was ....... WTF, is Tomlin taking pointers from Belichick on Injury Report Accuracy ?

mbmbn

PS: that pic squicked me out a little.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 7:37:18 PM)

The one with the Collinsworth's marker?  "A  nose does not look like........this"

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 7:41:01 PM)

That hit on Miller did not look clean either.  If the Steelers made those sort of hits there would be flags & penalties.  Amazing.

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/5/2010 9:06:37 PM)

Polamalu made the big play.
