Steelers give up 7th round pick for reacquisiton of Byron Leftwich, now 4 deep at QB, someone's gonna be shown the door, methinks...

I heard that he was told "one more time" and he was gone. I think it depends on the length of the suspension. Will be interesting to hear.

slvemike4u -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/21/2010 2:05:41 PM)

A conditional 6 game suspension....he can be re-instated after 4 games depending on certain criteria.

From CNN:

Goodell ordered Roethlisberger to undergo a "comprehensive behavioral evaluation by medical professionals" and follow their recommendations "to help him make better decisions and avoid situations that can cause legal or other problems." If he follows the recommendations, the suspension could be cut to four games, but if he doesn't, it could be extended, the league said. If he misses all six games, it could cost Roethlisberger an estimated $2.8 million, according to The Associated Press.

If Goodell means what he said you can guarantee it will only be a 4 game suspension. The Steelers simply will not permit Ben to not follow the recommendations. If he stumbles through this I would not expect him to remain in a Steeler uniform.

There are various rumors floating around, among them that the Steelers are only looking at offers from teams who have the 1-10 first picks in the draft, another is that the Raiders are seriously negotiating,  The Steelers will not discuss this sort of thing prior to the draft.  This means if Ben gets traded it will probably happen prior to the start of the draft on Thursday night.

your cocker spaniel ears must have been burning from what was going on in the beastiality thread.

KatyLied -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/21/2010 6:49:02 PM)

I have not seen that thread.  I thought it was TOS violation to utter the words bestiality???

ThatDamnedPanda -> Roethlisberger Is Satan!!!!! (4/21/2010 7:18:03 PM)

Goodell is doing Team Rooney an enormous favor by handing down the sentence before the draft. This gives Pittsburgh their best chance to deal him. If that had been left up in the air, nobody would really have know what the prick was worth, but at least now Oaklan... er, pardon me, any team considering trading the 8th pick... er, that is, a first round draft pick can at least make an objective determination of his value.

How appropo would it be for Roethlisberger to end up with the Oakland Raiders who former Steeler coach and Hall of Famer Chuck Noll once correctly called the "criminal element" in the NFL.

I don't get it, there's no conviction or even a prosecution here. I'm with Wilborn on this.

It's easy to see why the Steelers have grown tired of him and are ready to part company.  They have always been known as a class act and the Ben sideshow has worn thin.

Old Rodger punished him for being an idiot.

Because this all flew in the face of the morality clause they all had to sign. Both the Steelers, who up to now has been a class act, and the NFL are getting tired of the team members pulling shit off the field. Many professions have morality clauses. When you break them, sanctions can happen.

slvemike4u -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/22/2010 11:00:33 AM)

It amazes me that some think an absence of prosecution equates to lily white innocence.It simply means not enough to go forward with criminal charges.....certainly we can all agree that his bahavior left a lot to be desired from a morality stendpoint.....can't we?

Level -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/22/2010 7:35:53 PM)

Dez Bryant? Thanks, Jerry.... :(

And poor Jimmy Clausen, just a-sitting there... while Tebow goes before him.

slvemike4u -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/22/2010 7:57:56 PM)

What was Denver thinking with that pick....I'm not so sure he's a complete bust(Tebow) as an NFL QB...but wouldn't he have been available later?Who did Denver think was going to take him?If necessary trade down....pick up an extra pick and you still have Tebow.....plus you can pay him less.As it is they will have to pay him as a first rounder.....and no one was going to take him before Clausen so as long as Clausen was on the board Denver should have felt safe.
Strange reach.

Why are you unhappy about that?  I don't see anyone else who is.  They already plan for him to handle the returns.  If the special teams could could block well enough for Crayton to return to punts back just think what a real returner can do.

slvemike4u -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/22/2010 8:21:11 PM)

Charley Weis getting fired at N.D.winds up costing Clausen a small fortune?Would he have come out this year if Weis was set to return next year?Probably comes back and plays another year of college ball....and jst maybe goes in the first round next year.

slvemike4u -> RE: TRADE BIG BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4/22/2010 9:49:33 PM)

Either I'm losing my fucking mind or the Bronco's and their coach McDaniels has....when I posted earlier my suprise at Tebow going before Clausen I was having a total senior moment where Colt McCoy was concerned.
Are you shitting me......Tebow was on every draft board as no better  than the 4th QB to be taken...and the Bronco's take him in the 1st round.They have Orton,they just imported Brady Quinn.....IMO this is just off the wall.

You're right, Michael, they're clearly insane. I have no clue what they're thinking, but it seems clear now that this was their plan all along.

For an hour or so, I was really impressed with how well they were managing their draft - flipping picks back and forth, moving back, stockpiling mid-rounders. I figured they were planning to trade back into the first, and assumed they had someone specific in mind in the last 3rd of the round, but never dreamed it was Tebow. But I think it's obvious he was what they were about all along. Did you see the live coverage from the draft party at his house? Notice how fast everyone in the house got geared up with Denver Broncos baseball caps when the pick was announced? They had a whole box of them in the Tebow house, ready for the pick. All that trading back was just to get Tebow, and I have no idea how this makes sense for them.
