Damn, that's a good point. I might want to start looking into airfares and hotel reservations for New Orleans that weekend right now. What a party that's going to be if they go marchin' in all the way!

Maybe a win would give them a boost, they still need one

God, yeah, no kidding. No city deserves it more, really. What a wonderful thing that would be for them!

Quite so.  They're already pretty damned happy so far though.  Homefield, bye week... I'm just thinking if they do win it all on Feb 7, it's going to be one damned long, fun Mardi Gras party.  Be prepared to forget all of February if you go to NOLA

Cincy WR Chris Henry on life support:

quote:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry is “battling for his life” after falling out of the back of a pickup truck Wednesday during what police described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Henry was found in the road about eight miles north of downtown Charlotte “apparently suffering life-threatening injuries,” according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Police spokesman Robert Fey said officers were stationed near the 26-year-old Henry’s hospital room. He had no information on Henry’s condition, but said he was alive

It's over. He died 2 or 3 hours ago. Sad to say, but the kind of life he chose to live often leads to this kind of an end. How many times was he arrested just in 2007 alone? 6, I think? Maybe this will help teach some of the younger players that it doesn't matter how good you are or how much money you make, you still have to live (or die) with the consequences of the choices you make.

He's dead.

Has anyone read Brian Billick's book "
More Than a Game: The Glorious Present--and the Uncertain Future--of the NFL"  Just want to know if it is a good read.

I read Billick's book. I thought he did a good job of describing the tensions between the individual goals of players (getting a lucrative 2nd contract, padding stats, not getting hurt) and team goals (winning, managing the salary cap, etc.)

Billick also lamented that its easier for a team to scout a college player coming out in the draft than it is to evaluate NFL free agents. He essentially said that signing an NFL free agent is a real guessing game. This seemed counter-intuitive to me, because it would seem easier to to know the talents and abilities of an established player in the NFL than to project how a college player will do at the next level.

Billick also went on to describe the league in general and the "state of the game," and he points out that the new generation of owners in the league are more individualistic than the Rooney's, Maras, and Modells of old. How that impacts the negotiation of a new collective bargaining agreement remains to be seen.

Billick also questioned the league for biting the media hands that feed it -- by televising and publicizing its own games on the NFL network.

-------

All that said, let me ask you a question. How do you see PITT finishing out the season. As a BAL fan, it looks like the BAL-PITT game (at PITT) is the only hurdle left for the Ravens to make the playoffs. If the Ravens win out -- they become the 5th seed in the playoffs, as I see DEN losing to PHI at PHI.

Truthfully, I think PITT beats BAL at home -- unless the wheels have really come off the Steeler's cart this season.

P.S. Thanks be to Peyton Manning for shooting down JAX last night.

Thank you for review.  Thinking about buying the book as I enjoy listening to Billick when he visits ESPN radio and does analyst work.  Have to agree with you, I think free agents would be much easier to gauge than draft picks.  The NFL is considering some sort of pay scale for draft picks, it is truly one of the biggest crap shoots around, especially in the first/second rounds, so many busts out there.

I fear the Steelers are done stick a fork in 'em.  I think the wheels are off and have been for many weeks.  I never thought they would lose to the Chiefs and the Raiders, after that the loss to Cleveland did not shock me.  It is difficult to repeat a championship season but they really stunk up the place in a bad way this season.  Please prove me wrong on win out the remainder of the season,

I say good luck to whomever is left at the end of the AFC bloodbath.  Hopefully the picture will become very clear after this weekend's games.  I would like to see the Saints win the SB, I like a lot about that team and what win would mean to that city.

Thank goodness he hits better than your kicker.  10 misses on the season?

Well, it looks as though Minnesota is finally getting a first-hand glimpse of why Green Bay (and more recently, the Jets) couldn't get Favre out of town fast enough. Once again, his late-season meltdown is in full swing, and once again he's showing that he considers himself above his team and his coach. Childress tried to bench him last night, and he refused to come out of the game. Minnesota went on to lose 26-7. And according to the Minneapolis Startribune, this isn't the first time Chilly's tried to pull him from a game and Lord Favre told his head coach to stick it.

quote:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Quarterback Brett Favre did not hold back Sunday night when talking about coach Brad Childress' attempt to pull him from the Vikings' 26-7 loss at Bank of America Stadium. But it turns out this is not the first time Favre has been down this path with Childress this season.   Childress also tried to remove Favre early from the Vikings' 27-10 victory over Detroit on Nov. 15 at the Metrodome, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Childress has pulled Favre from six games this season because the Vikings had a big lead late -- that includes the victory over the Lions -- but in two of these cases Childress wanted to make the move well before Favre saw fit.   In both cases, Favre has remained in.

Nobody Benches Me!

On the one hand, it's sad to see one of the all-time greats embarrass himself like this; but on the other hand it's hugely satisfying that this time, when he falls apart, he's doing it to the Vikings instead of the Packers!

This is it kids; today some teams are playing for all of the playoff marbles.  May the best teams win.  I wish the Steelers had positioned themselves better this season, but when you lose to:  The Raiders, The Chiefs & The Browns, you really have no tuwe claim on a playoff run.

I'd love to see the Texans get in (or at least make it to 9-7), but they have to beat the Pats to do so, and will need a huge amount of help to get to the postseason.

Hiya Katy !

This is going to be a great FB day. So many teams manuvuering for position, who will sit who in what quarter and just the math to figure out who's in and who's out, and who will play who. Good Luck yo your boyz ! I'm always up for a Pats/Steelers PO game.

~ waves to Level ~ How ya been ?

I have a hunch we will be pulling our starters by the second half, but you never really know. I'm thinking BB will keep the D starters in the longest.

Hey mb; doing okay here, thanks. I think Houston will be up for the game today, there's been plenty of flack down here for failure to get over the hump, which I understand, but we're headed the right direction, it makes my head hurt thinking of starting over again.

Rumor is that teams will be pulling their good players hoping for certain teams to win so the Steelers stay out of the playoffs.  Ilove it when the season comes down to the last game of the season.  It is good for the fans and good for the NFL.
