Steelers to open season on Thursday night opener against the Titans.  The Ravens requested to not be considered. Never thought I'd see the day the Ravens chicken out.

I'm loving that the Ravens begged off, suddenly Ray Lewis = not so tough!

And so the Owens era in Buffalo begins:

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- T.O. was a no-show Monday for the start of the Bills' voluntary offseason conditioning program..........

I just don't get why any team would want him.  Yes, he's talented, on the rare occasion he's not throwing a temper tantrum.  "Ohh waaaaah!  I'm not getting the ball enough!  Wahhhhh!  I'm not on camera enough during the game so I need to be a 3 year old and get attention off the field instead."  You know what?  Shut the hell up and collect your $6MILLION plus per year, and take the few less passes.  You'll get hurt less and stay healthy longer, so you can make even more money and spend even more years throwing a hissy fit to get attention.  You know, you complain about not getting enough passes thrown your way?  How about maybe showing up to training camps and practices like everyone else?  You'll get a metric fuckton of them there.

The bills wanted to generate excitement apparently.  Well they've done it alright.  I used to like the bills somewhat.  Now?  Now I'm 'excited' enough to ignore them this season.

I mean hells bells, not even Detroit (0-16) wanted him.  He's so bad for the team that Dallas picked up a player FROM Detroit (again 0-16!) to take Owens' place.  Miami flat out said 'No'.  And he's sure as hell never going back to San Fran (7-9) who obviously needs some strong players, or even Philly, who have shown that they can do okay without him.

But then again, Dallas WAS doing fine without him, then this year... well... yeah.  Not that I'm heartbroken though, in fact, until T.O. signed with Dallas, I didn't think I could hate that team more... I was wrong.

But, I guess what all these teams are saying is "Yes, he's a good player, but, unlike what he would wish, he's NOT the whole team.  In fact, if there's one thing that can make a team turn to shit, it's his royal highness, T.O.".  I mean, when a team that goes winless over 16 games and has plenty to spend on salary won't even touch you, well, even T.O. can't be so thick headed that he can't figure out the message being sent.

Sorry, but yes, that jackass does tend to make me go on a rant, without fail.  My hatred of him is the stuff of legend.

Where is Jerry Rice when we need him?  He had talent AND class.  *sigh* those were the days.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 6:27:22 PM)

I like T.O. for his drama value.

The big story, again, is Jay Cutler.  McDaniels wants to repair the relationship, yet won't discount any scenario with Cutler, Cutler's our man; but, please, do call me if you want a trade.  The Jets fans are salivating.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 7:05:26 PM)

Yep...salivating.Cutler would fit right in,both New York teams would have marquee names under center....yeah salivating is the right word.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 7:19:58 PM)

I hope Cutler can go to a team that will appreciate and be willing to nurture his talent.  I think that McDaniels really FUBAR'd this one.  And Cutler's agent didn't help matters.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 7:27:33 PM)

He would be nurtured in New York. Our genteel press corps would welcome him with open arms. The love affair would be true bliss

right up to the first Sunday he throws a couple that go back the other way.......lol

openmindedslave -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 8:43:36 PM)

Concerning the Ravens... We do not have a great  or even a good record  playing prime time with the Steelers period. End of story!

However , there is suppose to be some truth in that most teams do have a tougher time getting back up to speed when they have a Monday night game  and then 6 days later they have a Sunday game.

And lastly, for now lol.. Does anyone else wish that the baseball season would just start so we can end sooner.  Thank you HD NFL channel!!!!!!

sasseeNshy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/24/2009 11:16:23 PM)

Katy.........I know you are a Steeler fan, hub, kids, about oh thousands of dollars worth or Steeler mementos....but with all due respect, the team to beat in '09 is......well <cough> GO PATS..............thank god Brady is back, and we are rebuilding, pay attention..............Pats are the team to beat......all else is irrelevant...................BRADY IN 09 wink nudge wink

This is a fairly big story, too, considering Detroit fans seem to be scratching their heads, wondering exactly who the Lions are negotiating with. It's a safe bet its not Crabtree or Maclin.

CHI won the Cutler sweepstakes. Losing Cutler and Shanahan for an unknown coach and draft picks puts DEN into unknown territory. CHI is the immediate winner of the trade.

Steep price they paid...steeeep.

Steep? A possible Franchise QB, under 26 with over 8000 passing yards in 2 seasons, for an 18th 1st round and probably a 21st first round pick in 10?

The Bears have had THIRTY QB's in the last 30 years, I really don't think 2 late first round picks is too steep a price to pay for a QB of Cutler's caliber.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/3/2009 1:02:42 PM)

First round draft picks are the life blood of an NFL franchise.....back to back first rounders(and something else wasn't there?) means Chi will have a big hole in their pipeline for the foreseeable future.
They better hope the Orlando Pace signing ,which they just completed, pays the dividends they expect.....namely keep their new franchise QB on the field and off the injured list.

Maybe top 10 first rounders, definitely top 5 but after that? The Bears have been hurting on Offense for the last 21 years, I think it's time they got a potential marque player running the O.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/3/2009 2:27:21 PM)

Sub I didn't say it was a bad move.....if they are close enough to win with him....if he's the difference than you pull the trigger on the deal.
If you aren't close enough and you lose with him....and lose the draft picks...you can be fucked for a good long time
It was a steep price.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/3/2009 2:46:39 PM)

Proven quarterbacks are so rare in the NFL that even one who has never really broken past the B+ range commands quite a bit on the trade market.  Factor in his age, and it stands to reason that the Bears had to pay a lot for him.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/3/2009 5:59:23 PM)

Considering what the Bears have worked with in the past, I don't think they overpaid for Cutler.  Although he has proven himself to be a bit brittle and that has to be a concern for them.  I think, just think, he may live to regret this entire situation.  Prove me wrong, I'm still drinking the Cutler koolaide.

subboi3382 -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/4/2009 2:19:49 AM)

great job McDaniels. Young pro bowl QBs are hard to find, but coaches with no resume are easy to find lol. I do his job for half the price lol

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/4/2009 4:33:08 AM)

As a Baltimorean, this is karma coming home to roost for DEN, who obtained John Elway in a similar fashion from the Colts in 1983. Back then the Colts got Chris Hinton and Marc Herman for Elway. At the time, Elway forced his way out of BAL because he did not want to play for Frank Kush (who was fired in the next season.)

Elway went on to multiple Super Bowl Appearances, and the Colts went into the lottery tank for years on end.

DEN is a much better organization than the Colts were then, but there are parallel dangers in play. For instance, suppose DEN drafts Mark Sanchez and he flames out. DEN would be set back for years. On the other hand if DEN can find a replacement, they come out ahead.
