The main lesson to be learned from these results appears to be that locking up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs may NOT be an advantage at all -- if your goal is to win the Super Bowl. However, you do seem to put yourself in a better position to at least reach the final game, as more than 50 percent of the No. 1 seeds since 1975 have made the Super Bowl. But recent history suggests a mild "home-field advantage curse" -- in the last 6 seasons, only one No. 1 seed has won the Super Bowl, 3 have failed to win a playoff game and 5 have disappointed fans by making the Super Bowl but losing in the big game. So, my advice to all you Giants, Panthers, Titans and Steelers fans -- don't worry too much about these next two weeks, a loss or two may provide that extra motivation needed to make a deep playoff run and may be the final ingredient to winning a championship this season.
