Wow...who is the best team in the NFL now?

Is it...ummm...Carolina?

Still the Titans?

The Steelers?

Wide open now.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2008 8:46:14 AM)

Will it be tough for the Titans without ("The Stomper")Haynesworth?
Carolina is looking great, although Delhomme is not the most consistent QB and neither is Roethlisberger for the Steelers.

Are Dallas's T.O. woes over?  I say only if they go deeply into the playoffs will he be satisfied.

Fixed that for ya.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2008 8:56:10 AM)

heh, yeah, you are so right.  I didn't watch the entire game but understand that Romo-T.O.-Witten were having a love-fest on the sideline last night.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2008 9:35:09 AM)

Dallas looked good last night, but they've laid so many eggs that I can't rank them at the top of the NFC.  Right now I guess it's Carolina.  I think Jake Delhomme is a lot better than people give him credit for, though this is hardly his best year.  Good strong running game, too.  Run the ball stop the run.  Herm Edwards got two things right.  (The other was ... well you know what it was.)

Better late than never, the Vikings are starting to look like a team no one should want to play.

If I had to pick a team in the AFC right now, it would be the Steelers.  They haven't exactly looked overwhelming, but that defense is pretty damned good and Roethlisberger has a solid track record--so maybe he'll straighten himself out.  I'd certainly rather be betting on Roethlisberger than Kerry Collins.  The other team that just won't go away is the Indianapolis Colts.

This is the foundation of any great team.

You play to win the game!

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2008 9:46:29 AM)

I like Big Ben, I'm a huge fan.  But he holds on to the ball too long.  I get it, I understand that big plays can come from it.  Games this season won in OT or in the final minutes/seconds of the game are nerve-wracking (and exciting!).

I thought this was a great quote from Dan Wetzel at Yahoo Sports:

"For all his often comical controversies, Owens has never been the trouble of Burress. Plaxico is facing prison time, after all.
T.O. just wears out teammates and coaches. When he leaves, offenses don’t get better, just worse. He’s the annoyance you tend to miss on third and long."

I liked what Ditka referred to him as.  A grenade thrown into a locker room.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/15/2008 1:24:55 PM)

OK, maybe he doesn't have a record of shooting himself in the thigh.  But it's not as though he has helped any of this teams win any Super Bowls.  Your person got this wrong by looking at what happens when T.O. leaves without asking why he leaves in the first place.  How about when T.O. ARRIVES?  When he arrives, offenses tend to get better in the first year, then they plateau in the second year, and they go up in flames in the third year.  It's Philadelphia all over again.

Well, I would say your pick will be put to the test in TENN this week. Five (5x) the Steelers have rallied from behind to win in either OT or in the 4th QTR. Combine that resourcefulness with the #1 defense in the NFL, and I dare say the STEELERS look like a real Super Bowl contender.

To my mind you can make the case that Woodly and Harrison are the best outside linebacker tandem in the league and that Troy Polamalu is the best safety in football.

Add into this the combination of Roethelsberger to Hines Ward and a superbly accurate FG kicker --- and you have a team poised to win the turnover battle and field position war v. most teams. Willie Parker is rounding back into form as well, and he has good breakaway potential to help juice up the otherwise moribund Steeler ground game.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/16/2008 5:52:52 AM)

The Steelers need a big back, such as Jerome Bettis.  For all of Parker's speed and game changing abilities, we need a tough, big guy to ground out the short yardage.  Other than that, I like us against the Titans, I think we should be able to rattle Kerry Collins, hopefully we won't put him back on the road toward rehab.  With some of the Titans defense out that helps us as well.

MasterVirago -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/17/2008 10:23:03 AM)

I just like to send a big hug to all the fans who have toughed it out with our team for these past few seasons.

GO MIAMI DOLPHINS!

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/17/2008 10:28:45 AM)

YES, you are catching the Titans at a good time.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/17/2008 2:04:08 PM)

Haynesworth's Pro Bowl invite has triggered an interesting clause in his contract:

Haynesworth and free agency

When Haynesworth was named to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday, it triggered a clause in his contract guaranteeing he can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Titans had agreed to four conditions under which they would agree not to place the franchise player tag on Haynesworth. A second straight Pro Bowl appearance was one of those four triggers.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/17/2008 2:18:13 PM)

Well it is interesting to see how quickly the Giants are being discounted by CollarMe posters....Jacobs comes back against Carolina on Sunday Night....Manning will have further adjusted to life w/o Plexico...and the Giants cement Home field advantage.all is well in G-land(hopefully)

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/21/2008 8:38:11 AM)

Joe Flacco is starting to look like the next big best thing.
How embarssing for Dallas as they choke (again) in December, and in front of a star-studded goodbye to Texas Stadium crowd.

happypervert -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/21/2008 10:04:29 AM)

It's interesting to note that Flacco ended up a 1st round pick out of Delaware yet transferred from Pitt because Dave Wannstedt didn't think he was as good as Tyler Palko who ended up as a undrafted free agent. I suppose this comes as no surprise to Bears fans.
