KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/10/2008 8:02:54 PM)

The NFL has announced that it is downsizing 10-15%.  This is due to a reduction in revenues and projection that revenues will continue to decline next year.  I guess this and the free fall of gas prices is enough to convince me that the handbasket is going south.

LumusandtheLady -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/11/2008 4:16:40 AM)

[sm=dunno.gif]  How do you "downsize" the NFL? In the office? Coaching staff? Try to get players to take a pay cut? Were they smoking something funny?

Those moves include a salary freeze and hiring freeze, reduction and possible freeze of the employee 2008 bonus pool, and a reduction in projected expenses “by 20 percent” for 2009. The exact number of employees to be laid off at the league’s New York and Los Angeles offices and from the Mt. Laurel, N.J. headquarters of NFL Films was unclear, because all employees with at least five years’ experience will be offered a voluntary separation agreement first.

T.O. Holiday Meltdown!

[8|]  Same T.O.shit, different team...... I was glad and threw a party when San Francisco let his sorry, immature, pouty ass go. Comes a time when a team has to weigh a player's actions and attitudes over their skills. He's good but he ain't all THAT hot...

Dallas is building for a championship run, that is all that team cares about.  Jerry Jones will take anyone.

LumusandtheLady -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/12/2008 8:45:00 AM)

Will he still care when T.O. starts destroying the team from the inside out though? When T.O. can't make the plays and then blames Romo or the other players? He pulled that kind of crap in SF and it didn't sit well there but I know Dallas is a different kind of team. Eh, talk about drama queens. [sm=lol.gif]  It does sell tickets for a time.

We are talking about the guy who hired Pacman Jones.  He wants one thing only.

Nice to see the old TO we despised is back. After calling Jeff Garcia gay and saying nasty things about McNabb, I can't wait to see how he insults Romo.

I especially liked this part of that article

quote:

Witten leads the Cowboys with 64 receptions for 771 yards and three touchdowns while Owens is second with 55 catches for 848 yards and nine touchdowns.

However, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, Romo has thrown to Owens 87 times while targeting Witten 80 times.

So Witten catches 80% of the balls thrown his way while TO catches 63%. I'm glad TO thinks paranoia and running his mouth makes up for dropping the ball -- it makes him that much more entertaining.

LumusandtheLady -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/12/2008 10:20:26 AM)

Ahhhh, happypervert, I take it you had the joy of TO at Philly after we had him in SF. Wonderful, caring jackass, isn't he? Not. [8|]  It's all about TO, and the money. Who knows, maybe he thinks in his delusions that if he makes enough wild accusations that no one will notice his stats.

So right now we have conspiracy and collusion thrown at Romo, any other theories on what else TO will lob Romo's way?  [:)]

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/12/2008 10:48:11 AM)

Well, 848 yards on 87 attempts is still a higher yards-per-attempt average than 771 yards on 80 attempts.  T.O. catches a lower percentage of his passes because they tend to be deeper passes.

But I've heard conflicting numbers, and there doesn't seem to be anyplace to check this.  I heard an ESPN report that T.O. has been targeted 105 times, not 87--and that makes a big difference.  Does anyone know where to find pass attempts by receiver?  It's not an official NFL stat.

I've been checking around and can't seem to find one consistent source for stats. The Cowboys site links back to the NFL site for their stats so if they have private team stats, they're not giving fans or the general public access to them.

Personally, I don't believe that any one player is good enough to keep around if he's destroying the team's morale and slamming other players as badly as TO has done in the past. While he's just starting up his shenanigans in Dallas, he has a history of this at both San Francisco and Philadelphia. At what point does a coach make the call and say enough is enough, shut yer yap or you're out? Johnson may want another championship but at what cost? Do you suffer and take a one-time win with a short-term team before people start walking or do you try to build something like the powerhouse team Dallas had in the 70's where they reigned for years?

I sometimes listen to Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio and he mentioned that Romo and Witten vacation together, that adds fuel to the conspiracy and T.O. being jealous situation.  Also Cowherd is of the opinion that wide receivers are insecure in general (not sure I really agree with that).

I'd agree that's probably part of it, but TO also drops a lot of balls he should catch easily. Other big time receivers may drop one occasionally, but TO drops passes regularly -- it just tends to get overlooked because of the big plays he does make.

Now don't be too much of a hater when it comes to T.O. [;)] - He did some great shit for us back in they day. I was just watching a re-play the other day of him wupping-up on the Packers/Farve with that great last minute catch.

Anyways.....there's a lot of fans angry with Vernon Davis right now. But I love the dude---I think he's just misunderstood. The hell with the long TD on the fly route.....I like how he almost caught that Seattle DB from thirty yards behind after he ran back that pick into the end zone.

I think its a good bet that T.O. is inducted during his first year of eligibility.

T.O. is good, I won't argue that. The man can play and has made some fantastic plays on whatever team he's playing for. The problem is that he seems to forget just that - he's on a TEAM, not playing solo. This isn't all about him. He's not the only man on the field. I can remember interviews with Jerry Rice where he flat out said "I had a bad day, I'm sorry, I just need to get out there on the practice field this week and make sure I don't let this happen again." You don't see that accountability with T.O. You get name calling and accusations.

I had hopes for T.O. when he was with the 49'ers. I kept praying he'd either learn to shut his mouth and just play the game or get the mental health help he appears to need. I guess I can still keep him in my prayers! [sm=lol.gif]

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/14/2008 8:45:46 AM)

It will be interesting to see how well Dallas plays tonight.  On Friday there was an locker room incident between Witten and T.O., with team mates pulling them apart.  Is Phillips unable to tell T.O. to STFU?  Is the coaching staff intimidated by him?  Soon T.O. will be 3 for 3, the trifecta in bringing teams to ruination.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/14/2008 9:27:06 AM)

Wow, I don't think that's going to happen.  On talent and raw numbers, yes, he looks like a Hall-of-Famer.   He's going to be in the top five of all time in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.  But people will remember how divisive he was, and if there's one sport where the conventional wisdom won't tolerate divisiveness, it's football.  How can you be a Hall-of-Famer when even Mark Schlereth won't respect you?

Among active receivers, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, and Isaac Bruce are all certainly going in.  T.O.?  I wouldn't bet on it.
