Favre ready to go again?

quote:

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—Although veteran Jets quarterback Brett Favre claims he still loves the game, dwindling enthusiasm and a desire to bow out while on top has him contemplating retirement again, Favre confirmed Monday.

"I always told myself I'd know when it was time to walk away," the guaranteed first-ballot Hall of Famer told reporters at the Jets practice facility. "But after 17 or 18, you know, practices as the quarterback of this team, I'm just tired, mentally and physically."

"I just showed up at camp, looked around at all those young faces, the unfamiliar stadium, thought about the brand new playbook, and I realized I was tired of it all," Favre said. "I love being a football player, I love being a quarterback, and I love being a New York Jet. But one thing Deanna and I have talked about is that I love retirement, too."

Sanity -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 1:31:18 PM)

I hope this isn't indicative of Seattle's entire season.

To be fair to them they had a lot of injuries and suspensions for this game, and Hasselbeck hasn't been able to practice with the team on account of his back

Still though, what a horrid start to the regular season

I doubt it will be, Sanity; Seattle is too talented for that.

Looks like Atlanta made a good pick-up with RB Michael Turner, he ripped the Lions D for 220 yards, and 2 TDs.

Dallas on top of Cleveland, 7-0.

Thadius -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 1:50:56 PM)

Both ATL RBs looked hungry... and Detroit well their defense looked like a bunch of girl scouts trying to tackle them...

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 1:54:46 PM)

Take away Ernie Sims, and I'm not sure there's anybody on Detroit's D that I'd want on a team [:)]

cankles -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 2:23:11 PM)

as a falcons fan i was ecstatic over that performance, but i think a lot of it can be chalked up to detroit being a horrible horrible team. still, the piece are in place for the falcons to field a pretty competetive offense this year.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 2:28:31 PM)

Yeah, if Ryan picks things up, Atlanta should be much better than last year, for sure. The atmosphere there has to be better, if nothing else.

Thadius -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 2:32:26 PM)

The play calling in the first half, especially before Detroit scored again, confused me.  If you are up by 2 touchdowns, the other team is out of timeouts, and you have a running back performing the way he is, why the hell do you pass on 2nd and 3rd down with 1:30 left in the half?

Just something to watch in the future, in my opinion.

cankles -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 2:32:33 PM)

yeah, i'm drinking the ryan kool-aid now. i love his work ethic, smarts, accuracy etc., and if the running game remains consistent then that will go a long way towards keeping his learning curve from getting too tough.

cankles -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 2:35:40 PM)

ghahaja yeah actually i meant to throw in that caveat - i HATE the mularkey offense, he promises a power running game and then installs a trick play-heavy, micro-dink-and-dunk passing game. i did like that he let ryan throw on first down a bunch of times though, and it really highlighted the ineptitude of detroit's "commitment to the run" - you have two of the most explosive, physically intimidating wideouts in the NFL matched against undersized UFAs, and you keep running kevin smith into the line? way to go dudes.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 4:09:05 PM)

Vince Young on crutches, also with a knee injury.  It's been a rough week 1 so far.  And pretty Tony got his chin banged up.

Thadius -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 4:17:15 PM)

Wow. Anybody see the end of the Carolina game?

Last second TD pass to win it.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 4:37:54 PM)

Yep, that's got to leave a sick feeling in the Bolts stomachs. Carolina almost botched it with poor clock management, though.

Very good look tonight at the new workhorse.  I was impressed, oh and the D looked good.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/7/2008 8:33:49 PM)

the D looked very good - they'll need it again next week for Carolina

SilverMark -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/8/2008 8:10:23 AM)

Chicago's D looked like the Bears of old....so did My Colts....the 1 and 15 Colts of years ago....We simply sucked! and the Bears looked strong, not sure about Orton as QB but, he beat our asses!
