Okay, I don't want to change my mind about Big D, but I like statistics too.  Dallas has never swept a team 3 times in one season.  They will have to do that to beat the Giants.  Thoughts?  Wait, Jessica is reportedly not attending the game, perhaps it will be possible.

Fox News Calls Jessica Simpson "beautiful bad-luck charm"

I don't know how good of a stat that is, Katy; how many times has Dallas had the chance to sweep in a 3 game series? Not often, I'd imagine.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden was handcuffed by police and then released without charges after being involved in a "pretty rowdy scene" at a piano bar early Thursday.

Arkansas' All-American running back and at least four others were at the downtown bar when a disturbance broke out shortly after midnight, police Lt. Terry Hastings said. A bouncer was hit in the face as he was trying to get the group to leave, Hastings said. A police report did not specify who hit the bouncer.

"There was a whole bunch of people there," Hastings said. "They were inside and it spilled out into the street."

Against the spreads... Seattle win, Jax win, SD win, Giants win.

I also think atleast 3 of those 4 will win out  right.  Sea, Jax, SD.

im going to go do a proline tomorrow on those 3 teams...it will pay like $150 on a $2 bet.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/10/2008 3:37:28 PM)

I wouldn't put much more than two bucks on the hope of those three winning [:D]

I dont need to..the odds pay so much.  proline is our gov't lottery...they make millions.   last week i was 3-4 and would have been 4-4 if jax won by 4 points.

Well, those are all valid points, and if I were DRAFTING, I'd pick Manning ahead of Brady.  I agree that Brady's crazy TD numbers this year aren't as impressive as Marino's in 1984 or Manning's in 2004, because Belichick was mindlessly running up the score in games that were no longer competitive.

Add to that the fact that during Manning's 2004 season he spent a lot of second halves on the bench, and Brady's 50 TDs throwing for every one he could possibly get just isn't quite as impressive.  Wow look what Moss did for him.  Moss should be MVP, imo.

Besides, it's not as though Marvin Harrison is Manning's only weapon.  The Colts have a much better tight end and Addai is a more dangerous pass-catching back than anyone on the Patriots.  And let's not forget that Reggie Wayne is almost as good as Randy Moss.

That much better tight end missed a few games and has played banged up in the rest.  A couple of times they played with only a single practice squad WR on the sideline should anything get hurt.  Everybody's hurting on the Colts this year.  I don't expect Manning to get the same numbers when a rookie replaces Harrison.  There are going to be miscues with a rookie.  It's a given.  Harrison and Manning have an almost psychic link, and no rookie is going to have that type of connection.

That said, the Colts are where they are because Dungy's a teaching coach and not a screaming coach.  Look how fast Gonzales showed improvement after missing a couple of weeks with his ankle injury.  He's admitted to going to Manning, Wayne, and Dungy and asking what he could do while injured to come back better and needing a wheelbarrow to take the films they gave him home.

Oh yeah, Addai is worth his weight in gold, beat up and hurting or not, and Bob Sanders is probably worth his weight in diamonds. ;)

TO practiced today. You know he will do what it takes to play. Word is that Terry Glenn looks pretty good right now, and showing some of his quicks.

Beating someone three time may defy the odds ... what about the odds that Eli Manning will play well three weeks in a row? I don't recall that ever happening either. [;)]

smilingjaguar -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/10/2008 4:10:47 PM)

My picks are GB, Colts, Giants (Eli's looking damn good since getting advice from big bro before the Pats), and the Pats.  I don't bet, so these are straight-up w/l.  I wish the Jags would win, but on the other hand I'd LOVE it for the Colts to spoil the Patriot's perfect season.

Didn't TO play on a similar injury (or was it actually broken that time) for the Eagles?  I look for him to play or to at least go out there and try.

Before last week, I don't think Eli had 2 good weeks in a row, so you have a very valid point. ;)

Just wait until that Seahawks jersey arrives, when you see it you'll like it so much more than any ugly damn  Steelers jersey. They're so much better looking, they have so much more style and class... and the team that it represents doesn't need a referee's help to win a Super bowl title, either!

The job Indy has done this year with the defense, is amazing.

LOL caitlyn. [:D]

I agree on TO; despite his character flaws, he's pretty damn tough, and I'd be stunned if he isn't on the field.

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/10/2008 4:35:32 PM)

I'll be honest with you ... I think it's funny that so many people are picking the Giants ... because Eli played well against a team that finished the season one game above five-hundred. Dallas wasn't very healthy the first two times these teams played. It's New York that isn't healthy now.

If TO plays effectively, this will be a blowout.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Coach Tony Dungy doesn't want to talk about retirement yet.
Dungy, who has considered leaving football each of the past two years, acknowledged Thursday he would talk with his wife and Indianapolis officials about the future when the Colts' season ends.

Speculation about his potential departure was fueled by a report Thursday in The Tampa Tribune that said his son, Eric, enrolled at Plant High School in Florida. Eric Dungy, who turns 16 Saturday, was a receiver-defensive back at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis the last two years but reportedly began attending classes at Plant on Tuesday.

Tony Dungy would not confirm the report.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Remember when Brett Favre teared up on television at the end of last season, leading many to believe he was set on retiring? He came back to play anyway.
So you'll have to forgive Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy if he isn't convinced Favre's comments to his hometown newspaper on Thursday — indicating that he was leaning toward coming back and playing another season — amounted to an official decision on his future.

Instead, McCarthy seemed to brush it off as just the latest episode in the Brett Favre retirement speculation saga, an annual rite that has become as much a part of winters in Wisconsin as snow shovels and ice scrapers.

It's a matter of rythem, and the all-powerful momentum god. Who dares defy the momentum god?

That, and TO was limping in practice today...

Holmgren is grumbling about calmer, greener pastures too.

Dallas is slipping...losing momentum.  I don't think they have enough juice with or without TO to go all of the way.  My picking the Giants has more to do with how they played against the Patriots (they put the fear in Brady and Belichick) than their playoff game, although I thought it was good that Eli played clean football and continued to make good decisions, something he hasn't done very often.  To put it simply, I think Dallas is going to trip up and I think the Giants just might be hitting their stride at the right time.  Osi (not even going to try his last name), Strahan, and Tuck...the stuff QB nightmares are made of. ;)

Now if I can ask for a belated Christmas present....Giants vs. Colts for the SB.  I know it has a really low chance of happening because of the Giants, but it would be far more exciting than Dallas vs. NE.  At the very least for the love of God let ANYONE but NE go... [:'(]

I was scared out of my mind when Dwight Freeney was injured.  I was thinking it would be like losing Bob Sanders, but thankfully he had a pretty good backup.  Sanders' impact was shown in the playoffs last year and a couple of games this year he sat out for injuries.  The Colts defense is nothing without him.  There's a whole thread of cool Sanders-related gems over on the Colts forum, but my personal fave is "They call it the cover 2 because the other 10 players only have to cover 2.  Bob Sanders covers the rest."

I hope not, all three of them make the NFL better, IMO.

KIRKLAND – Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren traipsed around the team’s practice field last week as he does every other week, glasses resting comfortably on his nose, a stern look on his face, barking an occasional order at a player or coach.

It might have been anything but a normal week, however.

In fact, it might well have been Holmgren’s last regular-season week as the Seahawks coach.

As the team totes along to Atlanta four consecutive division titles and Holmgren’s solidified legacy, there is a nagging question lingering ominously over today’s regular-season finale against the Falcons.

When will Holmgren retire?

How many times does the man have to say it? Read Bill Cowher's lips: "I don't have any plans to coach in 2008," he says. The former Pittsburgh Steelers coach plans to honor the two-year commitment he made as a CBS analyst, which also affords him the opportunity to watch his three daughters play college and high school basketball.

"No one from Baltimore has contacted me," Cowher says of the Ravens' opening at head coach. "I want to spend more time with my family, and I'm really enjoying and trying to get better at my job at CBS."
