He's better on Pardon the Interruption than on Monday Night Football.  Jaworski is really the only guy who knows anything on MNF.

I agree, I consider Kornheiser something that must suffered through in order to have Jaws.  I advised my son of this just last night while we were watching the game.

Kornheiser is there to play the fool and provide comic relief. As much as hard core fans would prefer to have a lineup like Jawarski, Aikman, and Collinsworth calling the game, the casual viewers in the audience would find that just too much football geekiness.

I'm sure if the network execs could find a player like Don Meridith to be a clown again they would sign him up; instead we've got Kornheiser. Just be glad they gave Dennis Miller the boot, because all he did was leave 99% of the audience asking "WTF does that obscure wise crack mean?"

IMO, I think they need more of the blue collar comic type like Drew Carey or someone like that; I suspect a Jewish sportswriter from New York just rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Aikman's OK, but I find Collinsworth kind of annoying.  Two other ESPN commentators who know a lot about football are Merrill Hoge and Mark Schlereth, but they don't seem to do live broadcasts.

Please, if they would take away Kornheiser and add Hoge I would have very little to complain about.  Talk about football geek heaven.      People would actually learn something about the game.

I do find it disappointing that the repertoire of Miller was to intellectually sophisticated for the mainstream viewing audience of Monday Night Football.

What does that demonstrate as to the state of our educational system?

Madden…Good;                      Miller… Bad

I am certainly beaming with pride as I consider this.

I'd agree with that. Perhaps we can start a "Draft Hoge" campaign? Assuming of course that the Steelers don't re-sign him at fullback *g*

Agreed. Put Collingsworth out of his misery. Tiki and the Bus, I can take them or leave them. Costas, Olberman, and Peter King get high marks from me.

I like Tirico, and Jaws, and Hoge would work fine with them.

Kornheiser, he's a decent writer, and I listened to his radio show back when it was on, but he annoys the piss out of me on MNF.

Dennis Miller was intellectually sophisticated?  He was an ignoramus pretending to be highly educated.  He's one of the biggest phonies on television.

And he didn't know jackshit about football.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers' starters are taking Christmas off, as the holiday falls conveniently on the NFL players' weekly day off.

The rest of the week, including Sunday in Baltimore? Forget it, although the Steelers are AFC North champions for the first time since 2004 and are guaranteed a home playoff game Jan. 5 or 6.

With the playoffs less than two weeks away, Sunday's game at Baltimore is anything but unimportant for Pittsburgh. For two very good reasons.

1) Jacksonville. 2) New England.

The Steelers (10-5) won't know going into Sunday's late afternoon game against the Ravens (4-11) what their final playoff positioning will be, thanks in part to the San Diego Chargers' 23-3 victory over Denver on Monday night.

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Brad Johnson, start getting loose. The Dallas Cowboys may finally let you throw a pass.

As Tony Romo's backup, Johnson has been limited to handoffs and kneel-downs in a few games this season. But with the Cowboys having clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC, there's little reason for Romo to play every down -- or to throw every pass -- in the regular-season finale Sunday at Washington.

Coach Wade Phillips refused to put it in those words Monday. Instead, he sternly said the Cowboys would be playing to win because of the "integrity of the game," an important point since the Redskins need a victory to make the playoffs. He added that his players will be motivated by the same factors that motivated them the previous 15 games: Pride, fans, family.

"We always have something to play for," he said.

New England Patriots linebacker Larry Izzo has carved out a quietly impressive 12-year career in the NFL. In 1996, Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson named Izzo, an undrafted free agent rookie at the time, as the second player to make the team's roster that season (Dan Marino was first, Johnson said). Aside from longevity, Izzo has become one of the best special teams players in the NFL. He's made two Pro Bowls, serving as New England's special teams captain since 2001 and collecting three Super Bowl rings along the way.

These days, Izzo is not just part of a 15-0 start for the Pats; he's already thinking about post-season awards … in the film industry. Izzo is a serious movie buff and recently recorded his version of the Academy Awards for the Patriots All-Access TV show:

I really need to know who's going to play and who isn't, because next week is the deciding week in my fantasy league's finals.  I'm up by 60 points after the first week (the playoffs are two weeks per round), so I'm probably going to win no matter what I do, but I have a roster full of stars who are probably going to sit.  Anyone know of an overlooked offensive player who's CERTAINLY going to start this weekend?  It's gonna be a tough week to predict.

Lam, look at any team fighting for a berth in the playoffs. You know they'll be going balls out. LenDale White with the Titans, Najai (sp?) Davenport with Pittsburgh, maybe Santana Moss with Washington.

Hmm, reading the new ESPN the Mag, a news tidbit states that Chicago Bears' LB Brian Urlacher's baby's momma  was ordered to pay Lord of the Dance high-stepper Michael Flately $11 million for a false rape claim.......
