FOXBORO, Mass. - Wes Welker didn't resemble a football player then and he doesn't now. Out of uniform, New England's leading wide receiver could still pass for a 5-foot-9, 185-pound equipment manager. But Welker began dispelling such misconceptions after first stepping onto a football field. The Edmond (Okla.) Bulldogs were a ragtag youth team when a fellow sixth-grader attended practice with friends. Even on a talent-strapped roster, Welker initially didn't get a second look. "My buddies were like, ‘We need to let Wes on the team,'" Welker recalled Friday at Patriots headquarters. "The coaches were like, ‘It's a little late, blah, blah, blah.' Then I ran sprints." Boy, did he. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7539686?MSNHPHMA In so many ways, Don Shula's world is perfect. Whether his 1972 Miami Dolphins can remain the NFL's only perfect team is another story. Shula was in attendance Monday night when New England remained undefeated with a 27-24 comeback victory over Baltimore. Shula allows the Patriots "have an excellent opportunity to run the table" just like the 1972 Dolphins did when finishing 17-0 and winning Super Bowl VII. "The Patriots are 12-0 now and they've won games all kinds of ways," Shula told FOXSports.com during a Wednesday morning telephone interview. "They've won in blowout fashion and they've won tight games. They do everything you have to do to continue to win. They're strong in every department." But beatable? The NFL's all-time winningest head coach thinks so. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7529068
