The Sainthood of Sean Taylor.  Is anyone else confused or surprised by this turn of events?  He is leading the pro bowl voting in his position.  There was a ton of media coverage about his life and death.  Although I didn't hear any mention of that rude incident where he spit on an opponent.  It's unfortunate that he died and in a violent manner, but I don't understand all of the attention.  And Ray Lewis' win-one-for-Sean-and-the-U display, left me going....argh.  I'll probably go to heck for speaking ill of the dead, but there it is.

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/6/2007 1:57:36 PM)

I don't understand it either. Certainly tragic and newsworthy, but the degree of coverage it is getting miffs me. Denver lost a Darrent Williams last year to a drive by shooting and didn't get this much attention. We lost Marquise Hill in a jet ski accident this summer, granted he was not a starter, but none the less.

I may get hammered for this one, but what I think it comes down to is: Taylor was a bad boy, who by all accounts was turning his life around and going straight. Being a good team mate and Dad, future hubby. Hill and the Williams were already good guys with no baggage. Taylor is like a Cinderella story cut short. The media and  people in general  think how
* unfair * this death was simply because he was turning his life around. When in fact the others were equally tragic and unfair, but not as interesting a story as a classic bad boy makes good.

Yeah, all this Sean Taylor hoopla is making me look forward to the day when Pac Man Jones and Michael Vick are canonized by the NFL.

Huh... this is interesting:

More people watched the New England Patriots squeeze past the Baltimore Ravens on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" than viewed any other program in the history of cable TV.

Game drew a total aud of 17.5 million viewers, besting the previous record of 17.2 million set in August by Disney Channel's "High School Musical 2."

The NFL has Moderators  too!

Cowboys' Newman put on notice by NFL after Kitna comments

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman has been put on notice by the NFL after indicating his desire for revenge on Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna.

Posted on Newman's locker Thursday was a letter he received from the NFL after making comments about Kitna during a satellite radio interview. Newman refused comment to reporters when he walked through the locker room.

"Be advised that your comments will now compel us to carefully monitor your activities in this weekend's Cowboys-Lions game," read part of the letter signed by Ray Anderson, NFL executive vice president for football operations. "As you know, flagrant fouls may subject a player not only to fines, but to suspension as well. So conduct yourself accordingly."

Sean Taylor got his life on track.  He had his kid and the girl he probably would have married.  Supposedly the guys who capped him, he had hired weeks before to do his yardwork.  They were buddies of his from the hood and he wanted to get them going on a straight job and give them some money and those fucking animals murdered him for it.

That's how they notify people of things in the NFL?  By posting a note to a locker?

Don't worry about it, Level. You can come on over here and sit on the "Group W" bench with we cheaters, and all kinds of nasty, ugly people. [;)]

For mbmbn:

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appreciates his counterparts across the NFL, especially New England's Tom Brady, who has been sacked just 16 times in 12 games. "It seems like Tom's like a superhero or something, and one of his powers is a force field around him," Roethlisberger said. "Sometimes he'll just sit back there and no ones around him."

FOXBORO, Mass. - Wes Welker didn't resemble a football player then and he doesn't now.
Out of uniform, New England's leading wide receiver could still pass for a 5-foot-9, 185-pound equipment manager. But Welker began dispelling such misconceptions after first stepping onto a football field.

The Edmond (Okla.) Bulldogs were a ragtag youth team when a fellow sixth-grader attended practice with friends. Even on a talent-strapped roster, Welker initially didn't get a second look.

"My buddies were like, ‘We need to let Wes on the team,'" Welker recalled Friday at Patriots headquarters. "The coaches were like, ‘It's a little late, blah, blah, blah.'

Then I ran sprints."

Boy, did he.

In so many ways, Don Shula's world is perfect.
Whether his 1972 Miami Dolphins can remain the NFL's only perfect team is another story.

Shula was in attendance Monday night when New England remained undefeated with a 27-24 comeback victory over Baltimore. Shula allows the Patriots "have an excellent opportunity to run the table" just like the 1972 Dolphins did when finishing 17-0 and winning Super Bowl VII.

"The Patriots are 12-0 now and they've won games all kinds of ways," Shula told FOXSports.com during a Wednesday morning telephone interview. "They've won in blowout fashion and they've won tight games. They do everything you have to do to continue to win. They're strong in every department."

But beatable? The NFL's all-time winningest head coach thinks so.

The Broncos actually lost two players in the off-season, and yeah, it didn't get as much attention. Fell of deaf ears really.

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (12/8/2007 10:18:30 PM)

The Ravens failed to make any plays on offense in the fourth quarter. I thought NE was ripe for the taking with a fake punt, but Billick kept it very conservative.

I'm curious now if Steve McNair's career is over.

I think NE will rip PITT to pieces. That's my guy feeling.
