When are people going to stop whining about running up the score?  It's getting a bit pathetic.  As others have said, if they don't want the opposing team to keep scoring, then stop them.  Their job is to score and win, not to coddle the other team.

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:27:36 PM)

If you read what i just said... yes its about winning.. but you dont have to be disrespectful, once ur guaranteed the win, just give them a break.

And it's getting a little pathetic about how many ban-waggon jumpers there are just because the Patriots have been good the last 5 years. You all know nothing about football.

jezzabelle -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:32:13 PM)

i don't think it's disrespectful.  i think it's just part of the game and every team has done it at one point or another.  A team is never guaranteed a win.  The only way they can guarantee that the other team doesn't beat them is to put enough of a margin between their score and the opposing team so that the opposing team can't possibly catch up.

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:36:18 PM)

I understand that everyone does it. But there are extremes.  When the Patriots are up 42-10 in the 4th quarter, and they go for it on 4th and 2 when they could of kicked a field goal... That's running up the score.

I know enough to not cry like a little bitch about the best team in football "running up the score"

I know enough to know the SEC is a better football conference than the AFC West.

I know enough to know I'd cry like a bitch too if I was a division leader and feared my wild card matchup in the playoffs.

jezzabelle -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:40:54 PM)

Again, i just see that as the players doing their jobs, and would feel that way no matter what team it is.

And I understand your point. But don't call for someone to cheap-shot another player just because you don't like the way they play the game *emphasis on the word "game"*

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:46:51 PM)

Game. So play nice and dont run up the score. And the AFC West was a powerhouse until this year. Last time I checked, the Patriots have an easy schedule.

kittiekatt -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 4:48:51 PM)

And I hardly fear playing a wildcard team. The only team I don't think we could beat is the Pats, but with their cheating ways, no one can. :)

Or instead of humiliating the team when you've already got the win, you could run the ball, and keep your opponents respect. And then maybe next time a 340 pound linemen gets the chance to lay him out just after he's thrown it, he won't.

OK, smartiepants. Did you watch the game ? We ran it most of the later third and fourth quarter with our THIRD STRINGERS ! Our second string QB was in the later third quarter and fourth. It is not the Patriots fault that the Bills couldn't stop them. What should they do ? Spend a quarter and a half kneeling on the ball, then punting? How much respect would that be showing ? Kick the field goal for gaurenteed points ? How is that not running up the score. Going for the sure thing vs. giving the D a chance to stop them ?

You want to see class ? Go to the ballet. Attend a cotillion. Have a tea party with your friends and wear lacey dresses and gloves. Remember to point your pinky when sipping the tea.

It's the NFL for God's sake, not a flipping inaugural ball.

As for your injury wishing on Brady. Seems someone who spouts off about class then wishes an injury on some one is a bit of a hypocrite.

I did watch the game. And in the other games when they were blowing teams up Brady wasnt taken out. And hey.. respect gets respect.

So kicking the FG and running the score up by three's instead of seven's is the respectful classy, not running the score up way to go, eh ? I bet the Bills would have felt sooo much better to have lost 52-10.

Hmm, I'm confuddled.[8|]

Brady has not played a full game except for against the Colts. Out in the 3rd or 4th quarter every game. Hell, we have even pulled our starters on Def.  Harrison didn't play the entire second half Sunday,I believe Seymour was out most of the half too. We pulled Maroney out in the second half. And others the weeks before. When you pull out your Pro Bowl D-men and put the second stringers in, you are giving your opponent a nice little opportunity to score. Funny no one mentions that tho.

Ohhh just as a side note and to make myself clear. Yes, we are running up the score. I am not denying that.
But many opportunities have been given to the opponent to stop it.

Back in 85, the Bears ran the score up on us quite tidily in the SB. With a last minute knife to the chest by the Fridge.I certainly didn't whine then or any other time in 29 years we have been blown out. It was our job to not get blown out.

mb, did you see TO play? It was a glorious sight..... [;)]

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/20/2007 5:34:09 PM)

Yes, I did see him.  I have always said that he has God given talent that isn't learned, just honed. It has always been his antics and Me-me-me issues that annoyed me. I think he has made amazing progress this year in that area, and I am beginning to respect him. Please note : " beginning to ".

LOL, and in the pre season I teased you about their being an ego contest between him and Moss. Both are working out nicely.

Play nice?  How is playing better than the other team not playing nice?  Are we in grade school again or something?  Yes, it is a game, one played by professional athletes, not elementary school kids playing pee wee football.

Yes, but the dam could always break [X(], and those egos come a-gushin back out. But I agree, so far, they're both doing a great job on and off the field.

I used to take a good deal of pride in the quality of sports fans in New York. They’re knowledgeable, enthusiastic, dedicated and they have yet to celebrate a championship by trying to burn downtown.

But, as The New York Times reported on Tuesday, they’re only good as they have to be. Like hormone-hopped males everywhere, if you let them behave badly, they will.

And the people who run the state-owned Giants Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands, have allowed Jets fans to turn a portion of the building into a strip club.

I think the fact that they are both playing on winning teams is a huge factor in the ego equation. [;)]

You have to remember Level, I am originally a Philly girl.  So I loved TO when he was there, until his meltdown after the SB. I said then, that the only guy on that team that played blood and guts < in the SB > was TO and he had every reason not too, given the seriousness of his injury. I even liked him in SF, the only thing that bothered me was his words about Garcia. I thought the Sharpie thing was pretty funny, but I have that oddball humor thing.
