I'll call someone sir, if thats how they sign themselves. Sure it gives me pause if thats the first thing out of their mouths,..."Sir sends you greetings" But one second later Im past it. Ive used the word Sir and Ma'am so many times in the regular world, it just becomes more like Im at work when I hear it any more.
But if I were thinking about getting a boyfriend or girlfriend and they called themselves Sir or Mam at first intro, that would send some pretty strange vibes my way.

Role fixations tend to get to me too. Probably why I dislike titles. Please be a person FIRST.

Not an expectation.[&:]

MistressTheaZ -> RE: In the online world ... (8/28/2006 11:02:49 AM)

No, unless it strikes Me as silly.

I use 'Mistress' as part of My nickname because it's recognizable to those who already know Me, and the same nic I've had on other sites and in the NYC scene for years now.

It also cuts down on those responding solely to pictures and replying with invitations to convert Me into a sub.

gooddogbenji -> RE: In the online world ... (8/28/2006 11:03:58 AM)

But you'd make such a good sub!!!!!

Yours,

benji

MisstressStella -> RE: In the online world ... (8/29/2006 5:38:42 AM)

If you are having a meet and greet I would say call them by their fist name.  If your introducing them in a BDSM group you may want to day Lady Jane Doe or Lord John Doe to let the other party know they are a Dominant.  However, that would be a rather formal introduction.  Once you are collared to someone it is the Dominant's choice if you are to call them Mistress, Master, Lady, Lord, Daddy, Mommy, or their name.

When I meet a sub and they call me Mistress Stella, I always correct them and say " I am not your Mistress".  That    priveledge is reserved for someone I have accepted for ownership.

(fast reply)

As requested by the lovely twicehappy...

On another forum the question was asked about some of the nicnames people choose and does it affect whether or not someone would write to them... something to that effect anyway... my reply was this... I did admit that it is very closed minded of me but I'm not here for the kinky sex, I'm looking for that long term, reality based relationship. For those of you that are in it for the kink... enjoy... I'm sure there are many matches for you... I'm just not one of them..

"I just have serious difficulty writing to someone with a nic like that...

Dear beatmebloody..... I mean what do you say after that? I have enough trouble writing to someone who's nic is basically 'nilla and starting a convo... If someone with a "I'm only here for the kink" nic wrote to me first, and if their letter was well thought out and not a long list of fantasies... and signed with a nic that was "easier" for me to use... yeah, I wouldn't have a problem starting a dialogue with them.

As far as I'm concerned, the nic people choose represent them on the internet... I can easily explain my nic and it has nothing to do with anything even remotely sexual... now, how is the person with the nic "sloppycunt4horsecock" gonna explain her's? Are you really gonna try and convince me that they weren't thinking about kinky sex when they came up with it? lmao In the same light... if I were to find that elusive unicorn... you can bet your last dollar that his nic is not going to reflect that sentiment back on me... I mean really.... How's this... Hi, I'm ShiftedJewel and this is my loving/kind/gentle/loyal/respectful/slave needledick4gangbangs... Do you see my point? "

Jewel

I couldn't agree more...that's right up there with MasterOfUniverse who includes a cock-shot as his profile picture.  Right...I'm gonna take THAT guy seriously!

i have met those who wore the title of dominant, but yet, when experiencing them in person they turn out to be latent subs! LOL!  There will always and forever be folks who are not in touch with who they truly are, but walk around trying to emulate others, denying self.  Just adding another twist of thought.

EmpressLeo -> RE: In the online world ... (8/29/2006 1:53:44 PM)

I totally see your point, ShiftedJewel. In the online world, your screen name is your first impression on others and if your first impression is bad, that can break/prevent contact with another person altogether. As, for my nic, I'm a proud Leo and I always have been. I was reading an astrology book one day in high school and it said "Leos are the royalty of the zodiac". I've also always been fonder of the word Empress rather than Queen so my nic was born. Empress just has a nice ring to it. I use it for other things too so why the hell not?

And my real pet hate?  Anyone who tags 69 on to their name........... sooooo lacks imagination. lol

When meeting someone for the first time does it give you pause if you see Master/Mistress, Sir/Ma'am, or sub/slave as part of their nic?

Who am I to think anything about a screen name

lol... while barely dressed might be interesting, barely there is NOT and now you know why I changed the spelling!  <grinz>

zumala -> RE: In the online world ... (9/2/2006 12:44:24 PM)

"What's in a name?"

Well, I have to admit that some names give a pretty good indication that the person wearing the moniker is a moron.  I do need to state that this is NOT a rule or always true.  I also sometimes have a little twinge of annoyance if I'm in a chat and someone with a nickname like Masterofyou comes in.  I don't call just anyone Master, so it's weird to say hi to them.

As for dumb names being an indicator...  The name I'm going to use is made up for the purpose of demonstration, but I haven't looked to see if anyone is actually using it.  I just received a message a few minutes ago from (lemme think of a good substitute name that gives the same impression...)  Okay, from WhipYourAss, let's say.  I look at the name and break into hysterical giggles at the lameness.  I assume they probably haven't read my profile.  With bated breath and another giggle, I open the mail and read...  "You want to be a dirty girl for me?"

Yup, this one's a loser.  I was correct on all counts based just on the nick alone.  Still, I could have been pleasantly surprised.  It's happened before.

Regarding the use of Honorifics; I use them if I get to ‘know’ someone well enough to know which way they lean.  I guess I don’t call a Dom ‘Sir’ just because, but if I find him worth the ‘title’, I give it to him.  …course, I don’t call my Doctor ‘Dave’, either.

To all the Dominants I call ‘Sir’ or “Maam’, I beg your pardon if you find it offensive.  I’m just trying to be polite.  It’s hard to keep up, yanno…some submissives come unglued if you cap their name, too!  Go figure.

*laughs*  But your doctor has put in the time and effort to learn skills and a degree.  Technically they've earned their title by the time you meet them as your doctor.  [;)]

MissN -> RE: In the online world ... (9/2/2006 1:09:25 PM)

Some names can be rather pretentious...faintly ridiculous! I'm called 'Miss' as I'm not married...I guess if I was I'd be 'MrsN' :)

The N refers to a femdom artist, and marks my realisation of femdom (with the initial assistance of a sweet Italian guy) and MissN also can be pronounced as 'missing'....referring to what my life lacked before I had my sweeties!

I sometimes wonder about it when a newish guy messages me & names himself like slave4ever4uMiss because how can anyone know about that *yet* ...unless, of course they're a psychic? [thinks...]

kittyinpink -> RE: In the online world ... (10/15/2007 11:45:28 AM)

I'm shocked at how many people when first chatting with them ask me to call them Master or Sir.  Now, Sir maybe, if they're 40+, but Master no.  I may be new, but you ain't my master just cuz I agree to chat with you online.  After a few phone calls maybe... [;)]

Missokyst -> RE: In the online world ... (10/15/2007 1:54:22 PM)

Nope, doesnt matter to me one bit.  I don't care what they think they are.  I care what they say.  I wouldn't give any more credence to a master or mistress's words over a submissive simply based on title.
People are people in or out of bdsm.
If they aren't in my immediate world who they think they are doesnt mean anything to me.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: In the online world ... (10/15/2007 11:14:31 PM)

Nope, but I am of the believe one can nto be a MAster unless they have a sub or slave, if you use Master in the way most do.
