I think all parents of Irish descent do that for some reason, I know mine and my friends parents did too.

Status: offline 		Oh man, i know my mom never said plain old "don't do that"..   she just got pissed if you did, and by gawd, you were going to pay.  LOL.  i do think it wasn't considered abusive in those days, but i remember the flyswatter when i was 3 or 4 turning into a belt by 5 or 6 and flying forks and shoes and whatever she could grab by the time i was a pre-teen.  Love and affection were always dependant on behavior and i think on some level, mom felt that if you ever got to feel secure, you might never behave again.  (See Catholic 101)

i think that's exactly WHY i adore the controlled management of M/s or D/s.  i love to be corrected, (verbally)  not because i like to do wrong, but because i like to know i can do right before it gets someone doing the head-spinning-pea-soup display of anger.  Even if i've angered or upset Master, that concentrated firm control just makes me swoon at someOne who is so just and proper and trustable and ruled by something other than emotions. (Yes, i have tested it. i had to know there wasn't a place that would make Him just hurl a fork at me. Lecture, Tirade, Sir-Mon on the mount, yes. hurling forks, no.)

in BDSM play, i also like the idea of staying to take a spank, flogger, or whip, by choice, i feel the whole world is actually controlled and i can trust it to be stable.  In M/s or D/s, i feel more security in proper correction and even CP.

My punishment as a youngster was pretty extreme and I won't get into it here.  Suffice it to say there were things that terrified me as an adult as a result.  However, to my own amazement, those things have been worked through with the help of my wonderful Master, and I find myself begging him to do the same things to me - I am safe when HE does it.  There is no fear around it.  He took the angst away.
