What you call relentless antagonism, I see as more of looking out for our own interests. What you see as a trade war,
I see as a careful review of trade agreements. After a good few years of NAFTA, I still don't favor it. I neither favor the TPP nor trust the people behind it. Why is it wrong to have these out in the open, and negotiate them on demonstrable interests rather than simply presume these guys are working in our interests? Maybe they got it right. Show me, don't tell me.

You're assuming that a re-negotiation with partners who are unwilling to negotiate will lead to better, not worse terms. It seems highly unlikely that suddenly deciding that a certain agreement is unfair is going to go over well, since the country you're negotiating with is already going to be pissed off that you're being such a whiny baby about it. You'll just end up with a lot of bitterness and broken promises, with neither party willing to budge, and in the meantime jobs will be lost.

This is exactly what happened under Herbert Hoover, exactly what deepened the Great Depression... you can't hold the global economy hostage and expect people to just fall at your feet.

I don't even know where all of this entitlement came from to begin with... Americans typically know next-to-nothing about the outside world, so I highly doubt they looked at other countries and decided that they were somehow ripping America off. I honestly think they're voting based on some idea of China being a paradise full of wealthy manufacturers who are exploiting America through Walmart or whatever.

Those jobs are not coming back, the 1950s are not coming back, you've elected a fucking moron, humiliated your country and panicked the world. I'm seriously thinking about dropping out of society, because a world where someone like this can be elected, despite warnings from everyone who knows better including members of his own party, is truly scary.

I assume nothing of the sort. They've had their advantage, and I don't expect them to say "oh, ok, yeah, my bad" and just hand it back. The thing is, if it's wrong for us, we should be able to wake up with the hangover and say "WTF did I do last night?" and go back to the table. Are you saying everything should be once and forever? Put your hand on the stove burner and not just not learn not to do it again, but you have to leave it there? Maybe they're not willing to negotiate, but do they really have a choice? They can try to hold on to what they can, or just lose it all. The 50s, yeah, that was an exceptional time, and no, it's not coming back, but fuck all if we should just lay our balls on the anvil. I'd rather have someone that doesn't just hand the hammer to whoever asks for it.

It's not so much Trump as it is his supporters that we deal with on a daily basis

I have seen some of the lunatic fringe that is attempting to attach themselves to Trump.
He and his family have publicly denounced them.
Since I have said repeatedly for almost a year, I disliked both candidates I am not worked up at all.
I was prepared for eternal bitching and moaning regardless who won.
But Hill supporters are becoming unhinged.

He can denounce them all day long, the lunatic fringe doesn't care. They have their own little movement that has gained momentum with the craziness that has happened the last year. And this is the South. His popularity encourages them, despite any denunciation he might make. We have seen issues with it around here already, nothing involving us, rather minorities, so my son is worried that it will escalate now. He is worried for his friends.

How in hell does that have anything to do with Trump? This lunatic fringe you fear is a group of people who have their opinions, seemingly without regard to his and given his denunciation, obviously without his endorsement. They could adopt Hello Kitty as their mascot, would that make you think Sanrio was therefore preparing to stuff these peoples' supposed enemies into the gas chambers?

What exactly are the long-term goals of the re-negotiation? What terms are unfair? Do you envy the wealth of other nations? What specific reasons do you have for blaming trade deals for your so-called hardships?

There is absolutely zero rational thought at play here... you only know you're angry and feel like you deserve more-- and blaming foreigners feels good.

Global trade agreements are conveniences for corporations. They destroy jobs, they don't create them.

Hold on to your seats, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
The people are speaking.

Yeah, the people are speaking alright.. at Trumps headquarters they apparently were chanting "jail her, jail her, jail her".. which to me means those that voted for him actually really expect him to do all the bull shite things he spouted.. He has emboldened brain-dead vigilantes and this country already had too many of those nutbars before Trump came along..

I think a lot of his supporters and voters are gonna be disappointed when Trump doesnt keep those exaggerated promises and they finally figure out they were had (yet again).. and I expect a lot of bitching from those unexpected consequences when he does shite that fucks up their little world.. and then they will say they wouldnt have voted for him if they knew he was gonna do that!

Greta75 -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 11:07:57 PM)

Trump doesn't have the power to jail her.

Most people didn't pick Trump expecting him to actually be able to deport 11 million people, or put Clinton in jail.

But at least, he will achieve some things in the right direction.

Also, Republican have their President and House majority.

It's a right world in the next 4 years. Only possible because people are unhappy with the left style of governing.

Moving on from here. For the Left to rise up again. They need to own up that they failed to do a good job in inspiring people to believe in them. And quit all the insults and blame on the people who voted Trump as racists, xenophobics or whatever. That does not help them win elections. They are just running negative campaign.

The markets are dropping because the principals in the markets have invested in Clinton. They'll be back just fine. I have to keep telling my mom not to watch the DJIA minute by minute; she's a long investor. Relax.

You don't think Trump's relentless antagonism of other countries and promise of a trade war has anything to do with it?

I am honestly shocked that the right is willing to risk the economy because of some conspiracy theories about who is behind the Clintons.

You keep gnashing your teeth and barking the shite you've been fed.
Time to wake the fuk up and take the blinders off lad.

I am a little puzzled how it all starts off with Clinton in a massive lead.

And then suddenly the points all just goes down?

Shouldn't both start from zero?

OR is it the lead base on early voting?

They make their projections based on polling data. There's a lot of confused angry journalists and pollsters this morning.

I think you'll find the Republicans will replace it with a big helping of "Go fuck yourselves".

Actually Trump is not against universal health care at all, I know Far Right is.
So it would be interesting to see the revamp.
End of the day the reason why republicans don't like Trump too is because his policies are not exact far right either. He is quite centrist.
It's just that the model the Obamacare is running at the moment is not working for truly making it more affordable for everybody. And needs a solution.

There's a great misunderstanding both within the US and especially among foreign observers. It's presumed that the 'rats are to the left and the reptiles are to the (far) right. In fact, the 'rats are unashamedly and relentlessly marxist, while the "establishment" reptiles are actually left of center. They work together. There's not much room for representation of the actual right outside the house of misrepresentatives and an occasional senator. We sure haven't had a good true right major party presidential candidate since Goldwater.

Trump is NOT a hard rightist, but he's upset the apple cart. Jeb Bush had been selected as the designated loser in this election, but he was such a complete fuckup that he was a non-starter. Trump has the reptiles so upset because he's breaking the game. He's thrown a monkey wrench in the cooperation between the rats and establishment reptiles, and that threatens their safe little empires. How rude!

Trump isn't a rightist period. He is a populist he can drift with the wind.
