MrRodgers -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 8:50:28 PM)

I am looking at C-Span live and they are conceding states with less than 30 and 40% of the vote counted. Ridiculous. The highest % of votes I've seen of all is 72% and still not really a slam dunk, so.....?

It's close and thus...still too early.

mrevibo -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 9:05:01 PM)

Some states can be declared with as near to absolute reliability at levels of reporting that may be surprising, simply because of historically established patterns. You'd need to be familiar with statistical sampling. It's a matter of which districts can be counted fastest, along with the voting patterns of the later ones. There's always a possibility of an upset somewhere or other, but it's like you can be reasonably confident that your three closest neighbors won't steal your garden gnome, but that guy down the street wouldn't be above breaking into your house and taking your lava lamp.

If Trump wins, we need some sort of emergency counseling available for many people.
Maybe it can be provided by the affordable care health insurance.

Yeah, Obamacare will be gone the week after he is. That's Republicans for you.

servantforuse -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 9:17:43 PM)

They can't afford the help they need with the ACA. The deductibles are much to high.

Obamacare is anything but Affordable though. It needs to be replaced with something that actually provides affordable care.

heavyblinker -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 9:20:28 PM)

The markets are already plummeting.
This is seriously horrifying.

Americans don't want that. ColoradoCare (universal health care for everybody in CO through a tax increase based on income) just got voted down by 80%. And that's with Clinton taking the state.

No big deal.

Temporary jitters. Best time to buy is now! It will only go up later!

I think you'll find the Republicans will replace it with a big helping of "Go fuck yourselves".

Horrifying for wall street and the corporations that supported her?

mrevibo -> RE: NYT Real Time Election Forecast (11/8/2016 9:24:31 PM)

The markets are dropping because the principals in the markets have invested in Clinton. They'll be back just fine. I have to keep telling my mom not to watch the DJIA minute by minute; she's a long investor. Relax.

Actually Trump is not against universal health care at all, I know Far Right is.
So it would be interesting to see the revamp.
End of the day the reason why republicans don't like Trump too is because his policies are not exact far right either. He is quite centrist.
It's just that the model the Obamacare is running at the moment is not working for truly making it more affordable for everybody. And needs a solution.

You don't think Trump's relentless antagonism of other countries and promise of a trade war has anything to do with it?

I am honestly shocked that the right is willing to risk the economy because of some conspiracy theories about who is behind the Clintons.

Short term speculators will have heart attack.

But this is an opportunity to make money!

As a Foreigner, I am gleefully waiting for cheap US stocks.

They won't face anything.
That's so crazy that people think Trump is against minorities.
He is against illegals. Not minorities.

What you call relentless antagonism, I see as more of looking out for our own interests. What you see as a trade war,
I see as a careful review of trade agreements. After a good few years of NAFTA, I still don't favor it. I neither favor the TPP nor trust the people behind it. Why is it wrong to have these out in the open, and negotiate them on demonstrable interests rather than simply presume these guys are working in our interests? Maybe they got it right. Show me, don't tell me.

Tell him not to worry, and have him learn about the 3 branches of the government.
