It's funny, I hang on another message board and the original news story was posted there. Talk about reviling someone! I mean harsh stuff against this guy. So I posted the update and hardly a word has been said about the newer information.

It does however open some interesting questions, our population here is aging. The whole consent issue around medical issues is something I think we will see more of.

Interesting update, he may not have even had sex with his wife much less raped her.

(NEWSER) – A rough trial in Iowa has ended with a not-guilty verdict. Jurors decided not to convict a 78-year-old man accused of raping his wife in a nursing home while she was incapacitated by Alzheimer's. "The truth finally came out," former state lawmaker Henry Rayhons tells the Des Moines Register. He was arrested in August, just a week after his wife of seven years, Donna, died of Alzheimer's complications. The jury did not explain why it reached the not-guilty verdict, notes Bloomberg, which points out that this type of case could become more common given the expanding 65-and-older population in the US.

But the Register reports that defense lawyers raised fundamental doubts about his guilt, including whether Rayhons even had sex with his wife in the facility. He denies it, and while her 86-year-old roommate testified that she heard noises from behind a curtain, she couldn't say whether they were sexual noises. It's not clear who initiated the complaint, but authorities called it rape because staffers had told Rayhons his wife could no longer consent.

Damn... Someone might have heard a noise, didnt know what the noise was, so they decided to press rape charges

Damn

No wonder I hate people

I thought the earlier article said that their was semen in her panties that he threw into the laundrybag and semen on the sheets/comforter.. but then again, the news reporter could have just fabricated parts of the article for sensationalism..

I suspect the jury let him off (in great part) cuz of his age.. no one wants to put someone that age in jail..

No, I dont believe that it was reported anywhere that the panties were semen soaked, or anything like that.

Thanks for the update, it's nice to know what the verdict was.
So all of this, because someone heard noises behind a curtain, that involved a man and his wife?
If nothing else, at least this case makes people think about what can happen when a spouse/or partner becomes mentally incapacitated.

well,.. I dont think people think enough about what is gonna happen to them in their last years.. not just this aspect but the whole thing about the cost of care.. dementia is going to be increasing in the future and when someone needs to go into a facility its not cheap.. people with dementia can live a long time needing care... who is gonna pay for that? how many are gonna hide assets/give away assets so they can get on Medicade & stick tomorrows taxpayers with the bill? a facility could cost (in todays dollars) anywhere from $50k to 200k, depending on the facility and level of care needed.. Right now, a third of Americans dont even have anything set aside for retirement, let alone thinking about what their end-of-life care will cost.. honestly, being housed in a cockroach-ridden govt warehouse for seniors is pretty darn scary, imo..
