ORIGINAL: KenDckey What I am saying is that shouldn't these responsibilities be transfered out of DOD and to other departments, this saving money on the military budget. This would make those who think the military budget should be cut very happy. The causes are worthwhile. But those that don't recognize it are clueless in my opinion. I'm one whom is reluctant to reduce any of the budget items found in most fo the bills to handle the subject matter on a grand scale. Because every reduction of $100 Billion, is removing 700,000-950,000 US Jobs. The majority of those jobs is private sector, with the next largest being 'down stream jobs', finally public sector. Taking the sort of funding your speaking off (using the OP as an example here), would be effectively cutting medical jobs from many communities, if not the nation (i.e. the CDC has to lay some people off). Yes, this world could use more doctors, nurses, and researchers than bombs, bullets, and guns. But the Defense Budget does not pay just for military personnel and equipment; it pays for the middle class to exist. Its like Social Security and Medicare, these two 'large bodies of money' employ millions of people in the private sector to handle all sorts of problems faced by Americans. And that we should be on the look out for stupid shit that the nation is paying on. In this particular instance; is technology I would like to see develop well beyond what its currently at. The benefits, when used for humanity's development far outweigh the costs we pay right now. I would not desire my Representative nor Senators to allow this piece to disappear from the budget.
