I mostly agree with you, although I don't think that it's necessarily true that just because someone doesn't have a college degree, they lack critical thinking skills. I've also found the opposite to be true on many occasions, where people with college degrees seem to lack critical thinking skills.

I've known people without degrees that could run circles around those who did. Joether's entire post there really is just an elaborate ad hominem, based off a faulty leap to conclusion.

No, that guy was coached on how and what to say by others.......

You don't know that. Prove it.

As the journalists found out, the guy never had the capital to make such a purchase to begin with. So why ask a very specific question, on a subject matter, that does not even apply to you, when you have a serious candidate (if not likely next President) for the White House standing before you and their attention onto you? Would it not be more logical to ask a question that effects you in a more direct manner than a hypothetical question that doesn't even apply to you?

So, one can't ask a question about an event that could happen in the future?

All you have is circumstantial evidence that he was coached. You have nothing.

There is a difference between the media doing their background checks and having government employees illegally accessing private information. The issue of Joe's tax status wasn't public knowledge, and wasn't gained legally. That's not necessarily the media's fault, which is why there weren't winning lawsuits against the media (not even sure if there were suits brought against the media for it).

Joe worked for a plumbing contractor. His goal very easily could have been to buy the owner out and run it himself. He could work as a plumber outside of municipalities. There are plenty of townships and villages in this area. Joe could have also been working towards licensing, too.

............................

Hypothetical question, hypothetical answer.

If we cannot read into the question, it follows we cannot read into the answer.

That's the thing, though. If you can think outside your own situation, isn't that an example of critical thinking skills?

Nope.   No more than laying cement blocks is an example of your archietectural design prowess.
