If I remember my polysci class correctly, a police state is a state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political life of the population. Okay, this morning, "Million Bikers to DC" and Military Veterans destroyed barricades blocking access to a memorial under the watchful eye of DC and Park Service police officers. The "minions" of the police state did not do their job under the rules of police state ethics, they made no arrests, they beat no one with night sticks, they did not even fire a weapon. They used anything but draconian methods to deal with the protestors. source Now compared to Kent State, dealing with the protests at UC Berkley, and others during the Nixon years, I do believe that the oppressive force playbook got lost in the period from Nixon to Obama. Considering that the Republican House would not even look at a budget that did not defund Obamacare, and after looking over the powers given the president by the constitution, I confirmed what I already thought I knew. 1) The president cannot arbitrarily decide on a national budget, he has to be presented one from the legislative branch. 2) The president has no control over what is considered essential expenditures and what is not essential. So someone want to explain how all of this is just President Obama's fault?
