Not to change the subject of global warming (Which isn't a few decades event some keep trying to use as an argument) and the foolishness of isolating warmer water among all the effects of the changing CO2 in the biosphere (NO carbonate shell organism, such as corals, is evolved to survive in the predictable pH ocean of an unremediated anthropogenic carbon future) but ..... we have less time than we thought to fix the mess. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/10/131009133216.htm Which is nice, in a way. Instead of Global Warming being our children's and grandchildren's doom, it turns out it will arrive in multiple catastrophic scenarios within the lifetime of most reading this. Yay! (Well, not me, I'm old.) Sorta gives a more personal element to the discussion? Will YOU be able to afford AC when the shit really hits the fan? Will you Have electricity? Or afford food that costs multiples of today's? When you can get it? Or have the social support network (Militia) to survive the collapse of much of our industrial civilization as trade collapses and the Great Depression starts to look like a Sunday Picnic? If a bit of Wall Street foolishness almost brought us to our knees, what will wide spread ecological and economic collapse for 1/4 of the planet (The Tropics) and it's food production do? Remember, most of the planet now lives in urban population centers where there is no local food growing capability nor water to sustain either food production or simple human thirst. Urbanites survive on local, regional and international trade of massive dimensions. Strike out enough suppliers, partners and customers and we suffer much the same fate. No single country now has the resources to sustain technological civilization even in our present more benign environment. The growing stresses increase energy and material needs for the foreseen future. Even totally free and unlimited energy as a game changer only removes one economic issue. Energy use always liberates heat, so human bodies and their energy use have warming implications for the planet independent of carbon dioxide liberation. It's going to be a Great Century!
