Lynnxz, you know how people react in GA when something white falls from the sky. At least most of the folks who don't know how to drive in the snow stay home. It's a better attitude than "I've got four wheel drive, I can get through anything."

I have no idea what went on in Georgia, but here in N.C. and north of me it was a nightmare drive.....icy rain making a mockery of any belief that one had traction..
I crept along at 35 determined to sleep in my own bed,it was foolish of me !
Meanwhile 18 wheelers, determined to reach their destination according to some timetable or other flew past at 60 and sometimes better....scaring the shit out someone driving down a treacherous icy sleek highway.
I should have pulled off...being Irish stubborn is just stupid....lol.
I'm just thankful that I didn't wind up in a ditch.

I used to own and operate an 18 wheeler, and when the roads got too bad, I found a truck stop and got off them. Of course that was in the old days.

My brother in law drives trucks now, and he has been hounded by his dispatcher to make the delivery no matter what, as long as he stays legal on his log books.

And those drivers who say that an 18 wheeler with tire chains can run along at the speed limit on snowy or icy roads are lying to themselves.

The news this morning was talking about the black ice forming up. Thank goodness I don't drive. I have panic attacks if I get behind the wheel.

Oh my god there were like 3 snowflakes, and everyone shit bricks and called out of work. My 6 hour shift turned into a 16. Stupid weather people. I work about 1.5 hr north of ATL, and it never even got down to freezing!

They did that here yesterday too because it was supposed to snow.
Hell the public schools closed down 2 hours early. Lol
And we only got a couple of inches that are already melted.

How do you like the new place?

(Sorry for the hijack, mike. We seem to be the only two up.)

It's lovely, just in the middle of nowhere

There is a piece of property that I want to buy, it happens to be 120 miles from the nearest walmart, but 25 miles to the nearest liquor store.

It is a normal, cold winter here in Wisconsin. Temps in the low teens but below normal snow levels,,,

I decided to run to the store tonight since I will be stuck at home tomorrow until the evening. It is still 60 degrees outside and the wind is howling out of the south. The hubs and I agree it is never good with it gets this warm at this time of the year. When the cold air crashes back in we get violent weather.

Here in GA just north of the Fl border, we went from 80 degrees one day to 60 the next. Now, that may not sound like much to me, and it isn't, but the folks here are goofy when it comes to cold. I'm walking around in tank tops, and they are wearing winter coats. And hats. And gloves.

These folks can't drive in the rain, I would absolutely refuse to hit the roads if it snowed. I can drive in it, grew up in Upstate NY along Lake Ontario, but these people here would be dangerous. When I was working in Chicago, IL I would pray that I was off the first big snowstorm of the season, those people leave their common sense in the freaking driveway. All the troopers would be doing is going from one wreck to another, and one spun out idiot to another for their entire shift. One of the guys would go the the tow company that covered his area and have them follow him with a flatbed tow truck up and down the interstate. He'd tow the wrecked cars and pull out the ditched ones.

The biggest hazards on the road are those idiots who drive 4x4's.....they blow by you doing 60 in a storm, and there have been too many times when I've passed the car in a ditch or flipped over because while they may go in bad weather, they still need just as long to stop as the 2x4 vehicles on the roadway. I just honk and wave as I drive by them. And you can bet the troopers give them plenty of tickets for their stupidity.
