This was brought up in another thread, and while I do not wish to make light of the lady committing suicide, I just can not blame it on a phone prank. I mean seriously, she killed her self because she made the stupid mistake of giving out personal information on a patient?

DJ's do pranks. Nurses are supposed to be professionals.

I just do not get the guys getting fired over this or the blame being put on them.

Status: offline 		Maybe the hospital doesn't want to highlite the fact that it is that easy to get info on the patients or that they didn't notice one of their nurses was on the verge of suicide. But I totally agree they shouldn't be blaming the dj's.

I guess it is implied that she had mental issues if this prank made her commit suicide but can you find any links suggesting mental issues?

A person without mental issues does not kill herself because she was tricked into transfering a phone call. They might feel silly for falling for a prank, but that's about it. I can't believe people are blaming the dj's for her death.

This is most likely. I've worked at that hospital as a temp in the pathology department. This would not have been taken lightly at all.

Status: offline 		While I don't blame the DJ's for her death, they are not without fault.

It's just a prank is a very lame excuse, it was a very inappropriate stunt that they did to get attention which is what pays their salaries. Even if she had been a stronger person who was able to tolerate it, it would have caused her a great deal of pain and anguish just so these two could get their attention.

Then again, that is what the US has come to love with reality TV. Making money by making fun of others instead of having empathy or compassion.

Kitkat I agree totally and thinks it's really shitty to put blame on the victim. No one knows how strict the protocol was there or how much harassment and teasing anyone can take in a case like this. If she was a really sensitive and easily upset person with other things going on in her life this could have pushed her over the edge.

Status: offline 		I loathe those prank calls that DJ's do. I find them annoying and humorless. It would be great in My world if the backlash of this means that all radio stations world wide stop it.

Having said that, I would hate more that a receptionist and nurse casually gave out My personal information to a random caller. Who would honestly think that the Queen and Prince Charles would not call Prince William or the doctor for an update?

This woman's suicide is unfortunate. The prank call was in poor taste. From what I read, the prank call was vetted before being aired by the legal team employed by the radio station. Of the people who should lose their job, it should be them as well as the nurse, and if she hadn't died, the receptionist as well. The DJ's did what they were hired to do. Shock Jock radio. You don't blame the monkey for flinging poo. That is what they do.

Having actually worked in that same hospital I kind of feel qualified to know how strict the protocol is and it is extremely strict - it's a private hospital which prides itself on being the Royal Family's local hospital.

In fact, I'd say it's probably - out of all the hospitals in London - the worst choice of a hospital anyone could choose to play a prank on, particularly when it involves the Royal Family in some sort of publicity stunt.

But would a couple of DJs in Australia be aware of this? I very much doubt it.
