I like wood, hands down the best material for me. I like the history of the wooden paddle as well. The wooden paddle is an American tradition* that came to common use as a 'slave paddle' because it didn't damage the slave's skin like whips. Wood is more flexible in application than lexan, leather, aluminum or rubber. Other countries used whips, canes etc. America made common use of the paddle for the punishment [of slaves] first. Later the paddle was adopted by academic institutions as a means of discipline. If you hold a wooden paddle loosely and aren't pushing the paddle, but you let it swing freely and strike solely with its own weight, it will resonate (note: it has to be big enough, not a micro paddle). Held loosely like that, it can vibrate on impact and the paddle sings . . . and so will the person being paddled. That paddle above looks brutal at the german porn film level. Schel! We're spanking mostly for mindset, the big pain aspect holds no interest. We love visiting the famous and historic LeatherMan Store in NYC and bought on separate occasions, a medium slapper, and a leather 10 inch ruler thingy. Their stuff is the best I've ever seen, maybe $40 apiece. They only have a very limited selection and it doesn't often get replenished. I like about 85% hand-spanking because of the intimacy factor. I used both our toys yesterday for a stress relieving spanking for the first time in a week. Implements are for when I'm thinking about a longer than usual spanking, so when she sees them, she knows to just settle on in. But most of our spankings fall into the category of "you look so great, you're killing me, get over my knees now" -kinda spanking, so my hand is all I need.

This sandpaper tool makes for a great multiple purpose paddle. Be cautious, as a paddle alone, it is devastating. When paddling you can use the sandpaper side or the bare metal side. This one is my favorite/most hated. It's heavy and packs a NASTY whollop even when used lightly. Mr has to give me a good long warm up before I can tolerate even the lightest spankings from this particular toy. BTW I also made it. I got this wonderful piece of red oak a while ago and we cut a paddle that was specifically made to fit my hand. We then wrapped it in the same "tape" used to wrap a tennis racket. I love that paddle!
