Two of my favourite sets of sheets I bought at Walmart. I think they were 400 or 500 count. Seriously, the actual thread count isn't all that important as there are ways that companies fudge it and make shitty quality sheets. Myself, I do like a high thread count 100% cotton (it's the blends that tend to pill, especially the low thread count) that when I feel it in the package feels thick and heavy, almost scratchy. That tells me they are not fudging with their numbers and I am getting a substancial fabric. Not necessarily soft. Then I take them home and wash the piss out of them. They end up becoming much softer and smoother while maintaining the structural integrity of the fabric. Something I haven't got in the sateen. The thing is, how they feel out of the package isn't a good indication. They've soaked them with sizing to make them look spiffy but it's no indication of what you will have a year later. A good quality 100% cotton percale with a high thread count will only get softer and smoother in time. I haven't got that with the sateen. I am a TOTAL BEDDING DIVA.
