Status: offline 		I'm looking to buy a new bedding set, I have previously been using 300 ct threaded egyptian cotton sheets. I've been doing some research and have the basics down on what to look for in terms of quality. What I have consistently come accross is that Sateen sheets are more astheticly appealing to me and softer, but can pill over time, while egyptian cotton sheets are more coarse out of the package but become softer over time and do not pill or wrinkle. What I am looking for is getting something with maximum comfort. I'm not worried about the price, and will pay for optimum quality. I've read that anything higher than 300 ct isn't distinguishable. I'm interested in something soft that will not pill and will last. So I would prefer an egyptian cotton with a sateen finish if I can find one. So far the ones I have found at bed bath and beyond overstock.com and ebay have mixed reviews on softness. So if anyone has any reccomendations I would be greatfull.

Even if I knew the answer to your questions, which thank goodness I don't, I would have to ask, how can you be so obsessive about a cotton sheet? I'm just grateful I don't have to sleep on an old sack under some railway bridge.

Status: offline 		Two of my favourite sets of sheets I bought at Walmart. I think they were 400 or 500 count.

Seriously, the actual thread count isn't all that important as there are ways that companies fudge it and make shitty quality sheets.

Myself, I do like a high thread count 100% cotton (it's the blends that tend to pill, especially the low thread count) that when I feel it in the package feels thick and heavy, almost scratchy. That tells me they are not fudging with their numbers and I am getting a substancial fabric. Not necessarily soft. Then I take them home and wash the piss out of them. They end up becoming much softer and smoother while maintaining the structural integrity of the fabric. Something I haven't got in the sateen.

The thing is, how they feel out of the package isn't a good indication. They've soaked them with sizing to make them look spiffy but it's no indication of what you will have a year later. A good quality 100% cotton percale with a high thread count will only get softer and smoother in time. I haven't got that with the sateen.

I am a TOTAL BEDDING DIVA.

Status: offline 		I dont have any recommendations, just a question. I heard about that urban legend that egyptian cotton sheets are somewhat aprodisiac? If so, i'll be following this thread very closely ^^

Nah I just work long hard hours so I want the best. I deserve it, my work weeks are 84-106 hours.

Status: offline 		I don't remember the brand but I bought several sets of 400s at TJMAXX of all places. They're fantastic, but the tag is unreadable at this point.

Status: offline 		I am also a bedding diva, and my favorites are the Charisma sheets, which they have at Costco evidently. 400TC, very nice and smooth.

Status: offline 		I perfer Egyptian Cotton 300-400 ct. Yes, it is rougher to the feel initially, but once washed a couple of times they are cool and hold up very well over time. And I have to say the brand they sell at walmart 300-500 ct 100% cotton percale are very nice too.
Of the two I have to say the Egyptians seem to drop me into sleep faster, it might be the pillowcase as it appears to be a tad cooler even if I have been laying on it watching tv for a bit. Inevidibly I will fall asleep 30 mins into what ever I am watching if I use that case. With the other I have to flip the pillow over before I turn off the tv to sleep.

Over time the ELS cottons will last the longest without pilling, tearing, or shrinking. I prefer the look of sateen. I know they have to be washed several times before they soften. An advantage to sateen is primarily the look, percale tends to pill and shrink wich is why I avoid them. All of my sheets have been sateen except when I was a kid and had percale.

What I'm really looking for is brand reccomendations. I haven't found anything up to my own personal standards yet. I had some my grandmother bought me when I went to college that were amazing, but alas some tramp knocked over an ashtray and wine cooler on my bed at a house party so I replaced them with what I got now wich isn't nearly as soft as what I had.

Status: offline 		I have some fabulous sateen ones that are made by Wamsutta, not sure what the line is, but I love them madly, even though I haven't used them in ages... The Charisma are thinner fabric, but just amazing.

I don't know about aphrodidisiac, but they are infinitely more cool, and retain body heat better during the winter. The main benefit of egyptian cotton over the cottons grown in other places is that the thread is longer, and doesn't contain any other fabrics so the threads are able to be woven in a single strand allowing them to be softer, and cooler than traditional fabrics. Additionally, they don't pilll, shrink, or tear nearly as easily and tend to last a great deal longer.

The kind I had before were Wamsutta, the ones I have now currently are Del Rey. I didn't know any better when I bought them, and I figured for 70 bux they had to be just as good as what I had before. But they are not nearly as soft. They are still nice, just not what I am used to, and I'd happily pay more for what I'm used to.

What line are they and do you know of a place I can order them online? I don't have a costco or a TJMaxx where I am at.

Status: offline 		My Wamsutta ones have lasted forever. But the quality of items changes, and who knows if they still make the same style. I know for sure I got them in some clearance sale, I have a single bed and I get great prices on really nice linens.

Status: offline 		Hm.. after looking at reviews at several places I think I'm gonna try the Wamsutta dreamzone. I'm not sure if that is what I had before, but I'm gonna give it a shot. If I don't like it, I'll just give it to someone for christmass lol.

I bought 4 sets at TJMAXX and they've held up fabulously.

I love flannel. It's sooooooooooo soft. I even used it in FL in the summer. I usually buy LLBean or Land's End. They last forever.
