ORIGINAL: GreedyTop I agree that w/o numbing drugs[...] that it is inhumane at best. However, IIRC, the article says the pediatric docs are advocating use of said drugs for the procedure. Yeah, we started looking into circumcisions cause too many kids died from it. The article makes it sound like a political decision, not a medical one, and the local investigations here strongly suggest that it is of no benefit whatsoever to the average population in our part of the world, but has a higher risk of complications than several other cosmetic procedures we disallow for children and almost universally has a negative impact on sex for both parties (corrected for other factors, cut men are less sensitive and their partners have more problems during sex, as well as subjectively lower overall sexual satisfaction). Substantial benefits showed up for a middle-eastern climate, however. Most importantly, all the benefits can be had by performing the procedure later, and it's irreversible. Despite the medical advice, the practice will continue to be permitted, although it must be conducted in a hospital and a rabbi will not be allowed to perform it (unless he's a qualified surgeon with a licence to practice). The reason was the lack of strong political consensus in other European countries, with only Germany having emphasized the rights of the children themselves so far. It seems likely that the Fiscal Conservative party will ban it entirely come the next term, assuming their polls stay on track, thus bringing the policy for male children in line with the policy for female children by equating MGM and FGM in the law. Some in the jewish community have objected loudly, comparing bans on circumcision to the Holocaust (as they do with everything they dislike). I've never actually seen a cut dick in real life, incidentally. It's pretty damn rare here, and good riddance. IWYW, — Aswad.
