Just read the strangest thing...........

"Mormon Church's Prior Baptism Of Dead Jews Could Raise Concerns For Florida Voters"

Apparently, the Mormon church has been busy posthumously baptizing dead Catholics,Holocaust victims including Ann Frank and even Jesus Christ himself.

Now I guess it`s harmless but I can understand that others might take offense or think of the quaint practice as arrogant and presumptuous.

And apparently,Jewish folks are quite put off by it.

It may have an impact in Florida with the 3rd largest population of Jewish people in the US.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/25/mormon-church-mitt-romney_n_1229322.html

"Mitt Romney's problem with evangelical Christian voters has been well documented.

But as the Republican presidential nomination fight heats up in Florida, a Mormon rite that leaves many Jews seething could prove awkward for the candidate in a state that's home to more Jewish people than any other besides New York and California.

The religious rite is proxy baptism for the dead. According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormon Church, these posthumous "blessings" are intended to "save" ancestors and others who weren't baptized in life or were baptized "without proper authority."

That particular aspect of the Mormon church has always creeped me out, on a lot of levels.

I dont see why they'd do Jeebus, since the Baptists have already laid the water to his brow.

I will be watching the vote counts though, to see how many dead people are casting theirs for Mittens...

It's preferable to them forcibly baptising live Jews and Catholics who might object, I suppose.

LOL, Moonie.  And yet, it is still highly offensive to the still living families of the dead people being baptized.
I wonder if someone is going to ask old Mitt about how he justifies the sexism of his beloved church.  I hope so, because his support of that is reason enough for him not to be president.

Disclaimer:  Raised Mormon.  Still bitter.

On a personal note, I distinctly remember a lady from my church telling me at great length how her undergarments kept her safe when an intruder broke into her home.

Did she pull her granny pants over his head while she beat him up with a blunt implement, or something?

Nope.  The magic underwear was god's armor.  That alone protected her

It's not a bit much, it's downright offensive. Many of my relatives were put to death for believing in their religion. They believed enough to not hide it. To have some Mormon decide to change their religion posthumously after they fought so hard to keep it is just disgusting and disrespectful.

The Mormon church says "officially" that they don't do this anymore, but it's still going on. One of my ex-coworker's mother enjoyed being the proxy in these ceremonies.

Yes, I guess Jesus would not have salvation without this Mormon baptism. Glad to know people are looking out for him.

So we are to accept any behavior or belief no matter how offensive or demeaning under the guise of religion.....why?

If posthumous Baptism of someone 2000 miles away is a voter's main issue, I feel sorry for him or her.

This is why I am not religious. The idea another Religion has to be baptised after death is just abhorent, as well as intolerent.

How can a dead person possibly be offended?
