Please explain your understanding of Communism. Unless we're on the same page, there's no point in this discussion.

That's about the first sensible comment in this thread.

There have been some policyholder owned insurance companies, but I don't think any are around anymore. I think the problem was they couldn't maintain sufficient capitalisation.

There are a lot of mutual companies still around. The companies that demutualized were generally for the opposite reason..they had built up enormous excess reserves that were impractical to return via premium reductions. Instead they distributed stock to the policyholders in amounts related to the cumulative profits on the policies held.

They are not required to make a profit. They are only required to have sufficient liquid reserves. Hell, you could probably even have a non-profit or not for profit corporation working as an insurance company.

I didn't look up to see if any actually already exist.

Wilbur? Are there any existing Insurance companies that are non- or not-for-profit?

There used to be non profit health insurance companies. Not sure if any remain.

Prior to 1994(?) all blue cross blue shield member corporations were not for profit.

The Blues were a different breed altogether, essentially not much more than a branding of independent health insurance plans, although the original Blue was the first "HMO", a group of physicians providing coverage for a flat premium. They were tax exempt as 501(c)(4) associations, not as corporations. They became taxable in 1986, even though some members remain not-for-profit.

Actually, I've learned a lot about how different insurance companies are set up.

Although nothing to do with the OPs premise!

That's tedium, not sense, though.

To wilbur. 2 words.....thread drift LOL.

To moon. Almost all learning starts out as tedium. It is then integrated into your long term storage. At some point in the future, it might hook up with something else that was learned thru tedium and a new paradigm created.

No such thing as bad knowledge. It all comes in handy some time.

It is one thing to know something. It is something altogether different when we Know we know something... and so on and so forth.

I tend to see words at their root structures. The term Communism, Communist, Commune, Community are directly related yet have different survival mechanisms attached. Insurance-a hedge bet against chaos-is typically a method of injecting money into a pool just in case. Whatever Nomics are involved are sometimes just as contrived.

What types of Communism? As I look at communities of atoms or the juxtaposition of flora and fauna it is apparent that yes, communism rears its ugly head in multiple corners and in multiple methods. Insurance is apparently just as ugly if not nastier. Under whatever guise or premise ethics is ethics is ethics.

Refute, rebuke... do what you must. I cannot help but see everything as an interconnected whole. That is just the way my brain works.
