The very nature of today's politics, especially from the right.

Gingrinch received a total of $1.8 million from Fanny and is part and parcel of the corruption of elitist politicians who believe they are entitled to such largess and exchange for basically nothing.

Sanity -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 7:26:08 AM)

He earned consulting fees, nothing wrong with that

Especially in light of all the bankers and other corporate lobbyists and Fannie / Freddy insiders etc etc etc who make up team Obama

All the money certain Dems have pulled from Fannie  and Freddy

If you want to talk about Obama, start a thread about Obama. This is about Gingrich. Please try to stay on topic for once.

Your claim that 1.8 Mil is 'consulting fees' is absofuckinglutely hilarious. [sm=rofl.gif]

It's a bribe. period.

Conflict of interest? Uhhhh, he wasnt in office. Nothing to see, move along, and stuff your jealousy where it belongs. Its none of your fucking business what his company earned.

slvemike4u -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 9:59:52 AM)

It is a conflict of interest,as well as being hypocritical, when he comments of the failures of Freddie and Fannie without disclosing his own ties to them.
It is also hypocritical when he pontificates on the evils of said entities without disclosing, and attempting to minimize, his won involvement with said entity.

tazzygirl -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 10:16:02 AM)

If he was paid to lobby for them, its also illegal.

Nosathro -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 10:20:56 AM)

What gets me if Gingrich is so opposed to the bail out and all, it appears the money he was paid, as well as others, so Fannie Mae could get influence in the government, came from the $169 Billion bail out they got. Gingrich was opposed to the bail out, but it seems he not against getting any of that money for himself.

tazzygirl -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 10:28:40 AM)

None of them all. For all their complaining, they were all lined up with hands out for their share.

As asinine an argument as the conservatives who say "If they think taxes should be raised let them donate it themselves". HE wasnt bailed out. HE provided a service. The source of funds to pay him is irrelevant if his company provided value for the service.

LimbicRelease -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 2:25:54 PM)

And speaking of history, Gingrich was born in June of 1943.  Were he to be elected president he would turn 69 about five months into his first term, making him about 8 months younger than Reagan was when he first took the oath of office.  Do we really want another president who begins the job at an age when most sensible men have long since retired?  What are the actuarial implications of electing so old a man?  Gingrich is not the only candidate for whom such considerations matter, quite apart from their individual merits: Herman Cain has had some very serious medical problems in recent years, and Ron Paul was born in 1935.

that bullshit was put to rest with the ridiculous claims about the likelihood of McCain dying in office. Better an older wise man than a young fool.

He cant have provided value for his service as they are still standing with their hands out needing to be bailed out. If he was good at his"littlle consulting job" they wouldnt be close to bankruptcy AGAIN. How many is that, ??? since 2007?
Id say he is part of the problem and NOT the solution

It is very relvant, the money was taken from the taxpayers. It was suppose to be used to cover losses Fannie Mae claimed to have incurred.

"Better an older wise man than a young fool."

That is not the choice, at least not with respect to Obama (who I certainly did not and do not support) and Gingrich.  The few times I've tried reading his books or attended one of his lectures, Gingrich impressed me as simply another shallow Washington huckster out to make a buck.   He had his chance in the nineties and completely flubbed it with his very ill considered approach to governance.  That he is also old does not mean that he has learned much with the passage of time.  As Paul Krugman recently put it, "Gingrich is a stupid man's idea of what a smart person sounds like."

Lucylastic -> RE: Gingrich has a history (11/22/2011 4:52:03 PM)

I thought even dumb people could see thru his facade...shame its not true.

Seems to me they just didn't listen to him. Until ya really know the details as Newt says he is gathering up such as when and how many times the company was paid and what it was all for ect and so on.

Wasn't there a couple of other "Newt and Freddy Sit In In a Tree" threads ?

Youre an idiot. Gingrich is easily the smartest man in politics today. If I didnt think Romney has a better chance in the general Id be for Gingrich all the way.

And as I recently put it: "Krugman is a smart man's idea of what a fucking socialist moron sounds like".

I am not so sure there was anything more than the typically and culturally nefarious about this.

This deal with Fanny was the typical Washington political, for-profit merry-go-round...get what you can, while you can, by any means. I am sure Fanny got absolutely nothing for their millions and never expected anything for it.

The bailout for Fanny people and others is the system now. Capitalists taking huge risks, making $billion in profits and bonuese, govt. takes the risk. There will be another. Estimates are now running at $5-$6 trillion when these derivatives (of no value really, there is none) go belly up. AND...that will only be another installment payment...until the next one after that.

Think about it kinkroids...it worked once and we get a few coeds sitting in, in a few towns. The bankers know beyond all doubt, they will get clean away...with another one...or two.

Oh and Newt is Paris Hilton...nothing more. A pseudo professor of history in whose lectures...revises [it] to support his own political dogma.
