Lady H, that was our secret!!!!!

Fortunately, my kittehs don't drag my things around.  Sleep on them yes, but take them, no.

LadyH, my daddy's brother had a cat that would piss on any clothing that was left on the floor.

Definitely in the call head crowd. I have a friend who has friends and family who DON'T call ahead, and it's often irritating to hear "Oh well someone just stopped by, I'll have to delay..." It's really irritating. Sharing a house with family I find it just as irritating to have people drop by visiting others in the house as it often cuts into what I was planning. (They decide to take over the kitchen for coffee and chat time when I was trying to bake/cook, ect). I often refuse to visit with the people who stop by unannounced and don't feel guilty for it at all. I point blank tell them I'm busy with something and will see/talk to them sometime soon.

The only people welcome to drop by are my son's friends as long as they've already eaten. I get real pissy at having extra people show up right at dinnertime when I cooked enough just for us, not for half a football team.

As far as La T's comment, horses are always welcome, the riders not so much.

wow...gotta say I'm kinda surprised by how many people don't allow friends and family into their homes unless they make arrangements to do so.

I have close friends that may come by anytime…I may have to tell them I have to go or am too sick for company but they may knock on my door anytime.

People I don’t know well or casual acquaintances I would like them to call ahead. But if they do come by I would be courteous but ask them to call in the future. If they continue to show up unannounced then I will reluctantly set them straight.

All and all I’m a laid back kind of guy but I do like my privacy…being dominant or submissive has nothing to do with good manners.

I don't do drop bys.....at all. If a person (friends, relatives, etc.) doesn't talk to me before they drop by, chances are, they're going to remain on the other side of the door. In the past, I would run around like Edith Bunker trying to straighen up or get dressed. Then, I realized they were rude to drop by without the courtesy of calling first. That's when I stopped answering the door when a person decided on a surprise visit.

I don't like surprise visits in general
and never drop in on anyone without
warning.

In regards to an intimate relationship,
if we're past the beginning stages and
are committed to one another to some
degree my house is his house.

I will say that 20 years ago, before cell phones, email and so on, I was more willing to accept drop bys. But there's no excuse today for not calling and saying they're in your neighborhood and wondering if you're available.

Lockit was originally asking about guys/gals we are dating who think that they are able to become welcome, not just anyone showing up! I would never shut the door on a family member or friend--but I have to bite my tongue when I invite them in! I really do not appreciate having to drop everything for an unexpected guest. It's not like the house is dirty, it never is, and there is always food and refreshments to offer, but yanno? MY TIME IS MY TIME. So give me a freakin heads up!
