Yup, many were "Americanized".

T^T

one word..... CANADA..... (no thanksgiving there!)

littlewonder -> RE: Thanksgiving Vacation Ideas Needed (9/17/2011 10:03:46 PM)

Canada is indeed on my list as well...just not sure where in Canada I'd go yet.

If you want historical try Plymouth Mass.
They have awesome events, I went as a kid when I lived in Cambridge.

Thank you all for your contributions so far. I'm going to do some googling and youtube on them all. I've also thought about possibly Vail, CO or Vermont or maybe even Costa Rica or France but I just don't think 4 or 5 days will be enough for a foreign trip :(....might have to wait for Xmas for that.

It's been a number of years since I've been to the Vail/Beaver Creek area.  It was starting to become a bit too overcrowded then and that was fifteen years back.  However, it definitely is a good get away spot.  Very nice hotels where you can be pampered, enough shops to do plenty of window shopping, and various activities in the surrounding area.  Of course, skiing.

Keep in mind that Colorado weather can be unpredictable during that time of year.  Wherever you decide to go, I hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Key West or St. Augustine?

littlewonder -> RE: Thanksgiving Vacation Ideas Needed (9/18/2011 10:42:19 AM)

I think my problem is there are just way too many places I want to go lol. I'm having a hard time narrowing it down. UGH

xxblushesxx -> RE: Thanksgiving Vacation Ideas Needed (9/18/2011 10:44:40 AM)

One way to narrow it down is to go to travel zoo and see where you can get great deals on air-fare. (if you're flying) Then go to travel advisor and check out the reviews and narrow it down from there.

So all you travel adventurers out there, where would you go to? What have you always wanted to do or try? Where do you find a great place to be one with nature? To just breathe?

Try a weekend in Montreal... The city is like nothing you'll see in the US, you can get an incredible french meal for chump change and the night life is really cool and wide ranging. If I had thanksgiving off, it would be my destination. If you go, find a room in Old Montreal.

so I think I've narrowed my list down to:

Somewhere in Colorado
Stowe, VT
Savannah, GA
Portland, OR

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Thanksgiving Vacation Ideas Needed (9/19/2011 10:10:49 AM)

Portland is a lovely place.

Did you read my op? Master has to work, daughter is spending time with her boyfriend's family and cooking dinner there for them so it's just going to be me, alone so I'd rather do something other than sitting around on my ass all day. So I'm going on vacation.

But in answer to your question..yes, cooking a family dinner is out.

Plymouth and Sturbridge Village are backed up worse than WillBe on thanksgiving these days[:D]

Good time of the year not to fly. The airports are packed, as are the airplanes. Weather delays can be a big problem that time of the year to make matters worse. Open a bottle (or two) of wine, cook your own dinner and watch some football...
