What little respect I had for Paul vanished with the last debate.

Not quite the same as Linda Ronstadt getting ran out of Vegas for singing Desperado, but it's a start.

"I practiced medicine before we had Medicaid in the early 1960s when I got out of medical school. I practiced at Santa Rosa hospital in San Antonia, and the churches took care of them," Paul said. "We never turned anybody away from the hospital. And we've given up on this whole concept that we might take care of ourselves and assume responsibility for ourselves, our neighbors, our friends, our churches would do it. This whole idea -- that's the reason the cost is so high. The cost is so high because they dump it on the government, it becomes a bureaucracy."

News flash: Charity is compassionate. Americans are extremely charitable. Socialism and Communism are not charity, nor are they compassionate.

Good Speech for those that believe good must be forced upon man via government.

I know Charlie Chaplin was on the left, however, the only difference between me and a real leftist, is I think forcing good upon man is a fruitless endeavor, and only can be had via individuals helping individuals, the government is merely a conduit for unified defense against invaders, and to provide a neutral venue for disputes. We don't have anything near a neutral government, we transfer our obligation to our fellow man to this "mystical" all powerful government, that can "supposedly" fix everything, and the consequence is less people helping other people, which equals less social responsibility.

Essentially if you rob the giver of the satisfaction of helping, you reduce the impetus to help. The government takes like 50% of many peoples money once you account for federal, local, state taxes, fees, gas tax, etc... and we wonder why people don't help more. We wonder why people don't help their neighbors, it's because the government has to an ever greater level broken that mutually beneficial relationship of the helper feeling as if they've done something good, the helpee feeling a sense that someone cared enough to help, with the government a check just arrives, a tax bill arrives for another. How do you breed goodness in people, when we detach those wanting to helping so wholly from those being helped?

Americans are extremely charitable.

You can back that up with figures demonstrating American charity as more of a factor than it is in any of the other g12 nations, then?

FR

The reason for socialist medicine came about because charity, family and churches were NOT able to handle the cost, time and lives of their patients. Charity wasnt enough, looking at some here, the selfishness is worse than it has ever been."I"ve got mine jack... fuck anyone else" is rampant, just look in THIS forum.
it hasnt gone away. Yes Im disgusted, Im horrified and feel severe contempt and disdain for people so selfish to not look after societies needy..Individually and as a country.

The hypothetical man was easy, because he opted out of insurance, from what I understand, its not them that need it, until ooops its too late, its people shut out because they have existing conditions. Not being able to afford the premiums and or their medication
People on this board are hurting for medical care, are far from being hypothetical.
You cant turn back thte time to the 50s and hope charity works, it DOESNT for everyone. ANYMORE(not that it ever did)
The fact you have given your health care to money men via insurance bastards and pharma companies and hospital trusts, greedy doctors and worst of all LAWYER how can you trust them.?

Ive been lucky enough to have nationalised healthcare my entire life, I refuse to believe its not what is best for the people of your country. I am not going to shut up about it either.
I have to many friends who hurt because of the ugliness of RPs belief.

Yeah the media blackout is funny. Same shit as in 2007 to the letter. But this time he has even more traction with the politically awake especially online. It's amazing he can kick ass in debates, has the only solid voting record of any of them, isn't corrupt, knows his shit, doesn't flip flop, understands the economy and constitution, and has more grassroots support than anybody. But he doesn't have the media's approval, because he doesn't have the media's owner's approval. And so it continues, with him gaining real life support but still appearing to be a longshot. Funny but tragic!

Lucy, he lived in a different time. I am not saying he is right, because things have changed. When he got out of school I could walk from Grandma's house to the doctor without crossing a major street, the office was in his house. He would never turn you away for not having the money. He was practically a neighbor.

This is the kind of world Ron Paul grew up in, in a community, unlike what we have today. He wants the community to return to how it was, like that in that people cared about their neighbors - just because they were neighbors. Neighbors became friends back then. We had porches and decks, and sometimes no or low fences. Our kids played in three maybe four yards like they do here in my neighborhood today. There are no fences here all the way to the end of the street. I know these people. Why do you think I do not want to leave.

Ron Paul lived that kind of life and wants to see this country return to those ways, but he doesn't realize that it is not possible. He is right, that it was better, but he just doesn't understand what has transpired in the interim.

He raised his son Rand on these mores as best he could. Up until not long ago I heard that Rand Paul, an accomplished opthalmologist did actually do charity work, DIRECTLY with the community at a place down south somewhere. I was considering going there but I found a different way to take care of it. I don't know if Rand still does this, but really, why the fuck should he ? Ron just did it. Those people didn't have a medical card from welfare or SS or anything like part a, b, c, d , who the fuck knows.

No matter his character, I still have my doubts about his suitability to be President. I KNOW he would be better than anything I have seen so far, but that doesn't make it good. In choosing between the evils looking for the lesser, sometimes we must look at the type of evil.

In my book, the character is not in question, it is the ideology. The country simply cannot take it. We can't go back.
