""I practiced medicine before we had Medicaid in the early 1960s when I got out of medical school. I practiced at Santa Rosa hospital in San Antonia, and the churches took care of them," Paul said. "We never turned anybody away from the hospital. And we've given up on this whole concept that we might take care of ourselves and assume responsibility for ourselves, our neighbors, our friends, our churches would do it. This whole idea -- that's the reason the cost is so high. The cost is so high because they dump it on the government, it becomes a bureaucracy." " Lucy, he lived in a different time. I am not saying he is right, because things have changed. When he got out of school I could walk from Grandma's house to the doctor without crossing a major street, the office was in his house. He would never turn you away for not having the money. He was practically a neighbor. This is the kind of world Ron Paul grew up in, in a community, unlike what we have today. He wants the community to return to how it was, like that in that people cared about their neighbors - just because they were neighbors. Neighbors became friends back then. We had porches and decks, and sometimes no or low fences. Our kids played in three maybe four yards like they do here in my neighborhood today. There are no fences here all the way to the end of the street. I know these people. Why do you think I do not want to leave. Ron Paul lived that kind of life and wants to see this country return to those ways, but he doesn't realize that it is not possible. He is right, that it was better, but he just doesn't understand what has transpired in the interim. He raised his son Rand on these mores as best he could. Up until not long ago I heard that Rand Paul, an accomplished opthalmologist did actually do charity work, DIRECTLY with the community at a place down south somewhere. I was considering going there but I found a different way to take care of it. I don't know if Rand still does this, but really, why the fuck should he ? Ron just did it. Those people didn't have a medical card from welfare or SS or anything like part a, b, c, d , who the fuck knows. No matter his character, I still have my doubts about his suitability to be President. I KNOW he would be better than anything I have seen so far, but that doesn't make it good. In choosing between the evils looking for the lesser, sometimes we must look at the type of evil. In my book, the character is not in question, it is the ideology. The country simply cannot take it. We can't go back. T^T
